Here is your weekly digest of news and events information from the Oberlin 
Conservatory of Music.

Please mark your calendars for two special concerts:

This Sunday at 8 p.m. in Finney Chapel, pianist Elena Loskova performs 
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue with the Oberlin Orchestra, conducted by Steven =

The internationally renowned Vermeer String Quartet brings its acclaimed 
program of Franz Joseph Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ to Finney 
Chapel Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m. The performance will be broadcast live 
on WCLV 104.9 FM, Cleveland=3Fs classical music radio station, and =
simulcast 
on the Internet at wclv.com.

A pre-concert lecture by the ensemble's violist, Richard Young, and 
cellist, Marc Johnson, will take place in Finney Chapel at 7 p.m.

Guest narrators for this masterpiece are noted theologian Martin Marty, the =

Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at the University 
of Chicago, and Grover Zinn, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and 
Sciences and the William H. Danforth Professor of Religion at Oberlin 
College.

Seating for this event, which is presented under the auspices of Oberlin's 
Artist Recital Series, is general admission. Call Oberlin's Central Ticket 
Service at 440-775-8169 to order advance tickets and to take advantage of a =

special "buy one get one free" offer. Ticket prices are $6 for students and =

children, $8 for those with an Oberlin College I.D., senior citizens, and 
educators, and $12 for the general public. Tickets purchased at the door 
are an additional $2.

Professor Marty will deliver a free public lecture, "Awash in a Sea of 
Religious Pluralism," Thursday at 12:20 p.m. in the West Lecture Hall of 
the Oberlin Science Center, 119 Woodland Street.

And keep soprano Alyson Cambridge in your good thoughts. Alyson, who 
graduated in 2002 with two degrees--one from the Conservatory and one from 
the College--has made it to the finals round of the Metropolitan Opera 
National Council Auditions. Judges will base their decisions on the pieces 
performed by the nine remaining singers during the Grand Finals concert 
featuring the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, conducted by Julius Rudel, this =
