Arthur Miller=B9s The Crucible on stage at the Streetsboro Community Theatre

=20

SCT will present The Crucible by Arthur Miller as its spring drama. This
intense psychological drama about the witch-hunts and trials in
seventeenth-century Salem, Massachusetts is based on historical people and
real events. In the rigid theocracy of Salem, rumor that women are
practicing witchcraft galvanize the town=B9s most basic fears and suspicions;
and when a young girl accuses Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch,
self-righteous church leaders and townspeople insist that Elizabeth be
brought to trial. The ruthlessness of the prosecutors and the eagerness of
neighbor to testify against neighbor brilliantly illuminate the destructive
power of socially sanctioned violence. It is a searing portrait of a
community engulfed by hysteria.

 The Crucible will take the SCT stage on April 25 and continue April 26, Ma=
y
