The Cleveland Theater Collective announced five awards for theater
achievement at its third annual benefit the evening of June 16, 2003. Formed in 2000 to
promote the professional development of Cleveland area theater artists, the
Cleveland Theater Collective initiated the awards this year as a way to
celebrate and validate excellence in local theater.

The five awards were presented to:

Cleveland Public Theatre for producing Blue Sky Transmission, directed by
Raymond Bobgan, in Cleveland and New York;
Cleveland Public Theatre for initiating the Big Box Series, a program that
allowed artists the space to experiment;
Charles Fee for leading the revitalization of Great Lakes Theater Festival;
Sarah Morton, for her tireless work in initiating Artists for Peace;
Fred Sternfeld for initiating and maintaining NEOhioPAL, the Northeast Ohio
Performing Arts List, an internet broadcast system that reaches more than 2,000
theater practitioners in northeast Ohio.

CTC received almost 100 nominations for more than 60 individual and ensemble
achievements. Nominations were solicited through the NEOhioPAL list, and
members of the Cleveland Theater Collective voted for their top five choices. The
awards were presented during the Cleveland Theater Collective's annual
benefit, which raises money for theater artist stipends.
