Weathervane Playhouse Announces OPEN CALL Auditions for
A LESSON BEFORE DYING
Weathervane Playhouse will hold OPEN CALL AUDITIONS for A LESSON BEFORE
DYING, by Romulus Linney (based on the novel by Ernest Gaines), Monday and Tuesday,
January 12 & 13 at 7:30 p.m. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held
Wednesday, January 14 at 7:30 p.m. Auditions will be held at Weathervane Playhouse,
1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, In the Valley off Merriman Road.
Cast requirements: 5 Adult MEN
3 African-American (2, age 25 - 34 & 1 age 45 - 60)
2 Caucasian (1 age 24 - 30 & 1 age 35 - 50)
2 African-American Women (1 age 25 - 34 & 1 age 55 - 70)
Please prepare a 2-minute contemporary, dramatic monologue. It may be from
the script. Auditions will also consist of readings from the script. Scenes
will be available at the box office by Monday, Dec. 15.
Director: Sean McConaha is Weathervane's Director of Education and Producer
of Youth/Family productions. He holds an M.A. degree in Theater from The
University of Akron. For Weathervane, he has directed award-winning productions of
"The King of the Kosher Grocers" and "Romeo and Juliet," as well as "The
Glass Menagerie," "The Chosen" and "Hamlet."
Synopsis: The story is set in Louisiana in 1948. A teacher, desperate to run
away from the customs and laws of "The Old South," must teach a final lesson
to a young man sentenced to die for a crime that he didn't commit.
Weathervane Playhouse is committed to non-traditional casting. Except in
cases where race, gender, age or disability is essential to the play, all roles
will be cast on the basis of talent. Weathervane Playhouse is a community
theater. All performers in all productions are volunteers. For further
