THE FANTASTICKS OPENS AT SOLON CENTER FOR THE ARTS

=20

            The Fantasticks, a musical based on Edmond Rostand's 1894 =
play "Les Romanesques" and a variation of "Romeo and Juliet," opens =
Friday, February 20 at 7:30 pm at Solon Center for the Arts.  The show =
runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm through March 6 with two Sunday =
matinees on February 22 and 29 at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are $10 for adults =
and $8 for seniors and students.

            There is a special Senior Preview on Thursday evening, =
February 19 at 7:00 pm.  Tickets for this preview are $3.

            The story is about an optimistic boy and a starry-eyed girl =
who fall in love.  Throughout the show, the girl and the boy grow and =
change with different temptations that their young minds must either =
accept or reject.  As their love grows, will they be able to accept the =
difference between idealized love and reality or will they be drawn to =
the allure and excitement of temptation?

            The Fantasticks premiered on May 3, 1960 and continued to =
play over 40 consecutive years totaling 17,162 performances.  Awarded =
the honor of longest running musical in the world, The Fantasticks =
includes such memorable songs as "Try To Remember," "Never Say No,' and =
"Soon It's Gonna Rain."  The book and lyrics are by Tom Jones and the =
music by Harvey Schmidt.

            James Mango, an SCA favorite, returns as director.  James =
most recently played the role of Oscar Madison in the fall production of =
The Odd Couple.  He also directed Arsenic and Old Lace last season. =20

            The cast includes Ross H. Wason, SR. as Hucklebee, Bruce =
Bogart as Bellomy, Kelsey O'Driscoll as Luisa, Scott Zolkowski as Matt, =
Jen Arvay as Mute, Jim Volkert as El Gallo, Chris Fornadel as Mortimer =
and Dan Harper as Henry.  Pianist for the show is Michelle Makhlouf with =
percussionist Troy Mamas. =20
