Miller South School for the Visual & Performing Arts
Drama Department
1055 East Ave.
Akron, OH 44307 330--761-1765

Miller South School for the Visual & Performing Arts is very pleased to
present:

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, a stage adaptation by Philadelphia
playwright Ed Shockley of the award-winning children's novel written by
Mildred Taylor, will be presented at Miller South School for the Visual
& Performing Arts in February in honor of African American History
Month. This powerful story relates how one family deals with racial
discrimination during the Depression. Set in Mississippi, the unfolding
and terrifying events are seen through the eyes of Cassie, the young
daughter in the Logan family. The stage adaptation is an
expressionistic interpretation of this harrowing yet inspiring story of
how one family manages to survive and overcome despite the indignities
and brutality of racism. Please note that strong language (that is
authentic to the time, place and characters and that appears in the
actual novel) is used at times. Violent situations occur but are not
presented in a gratuitous and graphic manner. This story allows us to
experience the long and immense struggle for equality and freedom that
took place in this country after the Civil War

The play will be presented on the following dates:
