Lakeland Theatre announces 
AUDITIONS 
for 
THE GRAND HOTEL

Audition Dates and Times:
March 6 (Saturday) 2:30pm-4:30pm in Room H1095.
March 7 (Sunday) 1:00pm- 3:00pm in Room H1095
March 10 (Wednesday) Callbacks and additional auditions
 7:30pm-9:00pm in Performing Arts Center.

Information concerning auditions:
Please prepare one song that will demonstrate your range. A rehearsal pianist will be provided; please bring your own sheet music. Reading will come directly from the script following singing. ALL roles will be compensated. There is ONE (and possibly two) Equity contract(s) available. No roles are cast. This is the first professional production in Cleveland in many years. 

Production Dates: July 16 through August 1, 2004.  Rehearsals begin June 1, 2004 on a graduated basis. Company will be off on July 4 and 5. 

There are many roles. All of them sing. Indeed, the conceit of the show is that everyone is on stage at all times. This show is performed without an interval. The Grand Hotel is based upon the short story and not the film. 
Colonel/Doctor: 50's to 60's, physically wounded by gas and shrapnel. 2 solos.
Rohna: Hotel General Manager (30's-50's) Hotel Martinet/General Manager.
Raffela: confidante, secretary and dresser to Grushinskaya (30's/early 40's) 4 solos.
Erik: Young assistant to general manager/concierge. 1 small solo.
Zinnowitz: An attorney in Berlin (20's-30's). 2 solos.
Preysing: General Director of large textile mill. 3 solos. (30's)
Madame Peepee: Lavatory Attendant. 1 solo. (20's-50's)
Dancing Couple: (Count/Countess), Ballroom dancers. (30's-60's) Siginificant solo dancing time. 
Witt: Company manager of Grushinskaya's ballet troupe. 3 scenes.
Flaemmchen (Frieda Flamm): A pretty girl who seems to younger than early 20's and has theatrical ambitions. 5 solos. Great role. Must be able to sing, dance and act. 
Baron Felix Von Gaigern:  Tenor. (40's- young 50's). Athletic, charming, optimistic, broke. 8 solos.
Grushinskaya: (40's). Still-beautiful, world-famous, about to retire Prima ballerina. 4 solos.
Scullery Workers/Telephone Operators: Male/Female.6 solos. 5 to 7 individuals. Wonderful songs/solos. Company members. (early 20's-40's).
The Two Jimmys: Usually played by Black Americans. Not necessarily so. NOTHING ABOUT THE SONGS OR ROLES ARE DEMEANING! (20's-40's) 3 great solos.
Otto Kringelein: not terribly old, but mortally ill; a bookkeeper from a small town. (30's-50's). 4 solos.
Assorted chauffeurs/impresarios/bellboys/operators/courtesans/maids/detectives/doormen.

Directions: Lakeland Theatre is located at Lakeland Community College's Performing Arts Center. Take I 90 east to Rt #306 (the second exit on I90 east) and turn right on Rt#306. At the first stop light turn left into Lakeland Community College. Get into the right lane. Turn right at the first stop sign and right at the next stop sign. Park in the free Faculty/Staff Parking lot. The theatre is located in the building to the left of the clocktower. Follow the signs to room H1095. (Turn left into Building "D"; go through the gallery, past the restrooms and through the double doors {H Building} and take a left. H1095 is the first room on your right.)
