Re: Karamu Performing Arts Youth Theatre =96 Cinderella (The Musical)
        =20
Karamu Performing Arts Youth Theatre presents Cinderella, book and =
lyrics by Tom McKenna; Music by Sherman Music Associates on Saturdays =
and Sundays at 2:00 pm from May 1 through May 16, 2004 In Karamu=92s =
Arena Theatre. =20

=20

=93On Washington=92s Birthday, 1917 Karamu put on a children=92s play. =
It was Cinderella, very likely the first integrated Cinderella ever =
seen. So three full years before the adults got around to doing =
anything about theatre, the children were giving successful =
performances.=94  Excerpt from

Beyond Civil Rights by John Selby

=20

This musical dramatization of Cinderella will enchant all who attend. =
It is full of witty dialogue, clever songs and the magic of the Fairy =
Godmother. This play is ideal children=92s fare and a lot of fun for =
adults too.

=20

Cinderella is being directed by Ms. Judith Mazur who brought us the hit =
Christmas holiday production of Jack Kurtz's When the Oldest Baby Jesus =
Got Lost last year.

=20

Come to Karamu and Feel at Home In the House, Karamu House is the oldest =
African American Cultural Arts Institution in the United States. It is =
listed in the National Registry of Historic Places and is a recipient of =
an Ohio Historical Marker. Karamu's Youth theatre productions are =
sponsored in part by The Cleveland Foundation, The George Gund =
Foundation, Ralph Tyler Company and The Ohio Arts Council.
