Plays to the memory of R. Joyce Whitley, a Karamu friend who died on =
December 20, 1992. Ms. Whitley infected Karamu House with the energy and =
enthusiasm she brought to all the projects with which she associated =
herself.=20
=20
Ms. Franklin=92s most recent play Grey Panthers: Coming to the Mercy =
Seat directed by Tisch Jones opened Karamu's 2003/2004 Season of the =
Woman this Fall. The play was a critical hit. Claude Brown's Manchild =
In The Promised Land, is a best selling autobiography on his youth in =
Harlem, New York. Almost 35 years, and 4 million copies later, Manchild =
in the Promise Land has become the second best selling book MacMillan =
Books ever published (the first was Gone with the Wind).

Ms. Wimberly's most recent play Forest City was staged at Cleveland =

part of the Next Stage Fest at Cleveland Playhouse last Fall. Ms. =
Brown-Guillory=92s play When the Ancestors Call was a regional hit in =

New City in New York.=20
