April 23 & 24, Case Western Reserve University presents a weekend-long
celebration of Shakespeare & music, in honor of the publication of
Shakespeare's Songbook by Fynette H. Kulas Professor of Music, Ross W.
Duffin (W.W. Norton, 2004).

Masterclass with internationally-renowned early music soprano Ellen
Hargis.
Friday, April 23, 7:30 pm
Keynote Lecture by Shakespeare scholar & Stanford professor Stephen
Orgel, along
with live performances of three Elizabethan Stage Jigs, performed by
students from the Case departments of Theatre and Music. Renaissance
fiddler David Douglass leads the musicians. Followed by a reception &
book-signing at The Glidden House.

Panel Discussion -- Performance Implications
Panelists include Gerald Freedman (NC School of the Arts, formerly
Great Lakes Theatre Festival), Paul O'Dette (Eastman School of Music),

Panel Discussion -- Interpretive Implications
Panelists include Anston Bosman (Amherst College), Tom Bishop (Case
English Dept, Shakespearean International Yearbook), Gerald Freedman
and Stephen Orgel.

Concert -- Shakespeare's Songbook
Performed by "the world's greatest living lutenist" Paul O'Dette, with
phenomenal Renaissance fiddler David Douglass, and the exquisite
vocalists soprano Ellen Hargis and tenor William Hite. Followed by a
reception & book-signing at Guilford House.
All events take place in Harkness Chapel, 11200 Bellflower Road on the
Case Western Reserve campus (across the street from the Frank
Gehry-designed Peter B. Lewis Building). Harkness is wheelchair
accessible.
All events are FREE except the Saturday night concert. Tickets for the
concert are $20 regular; $18 seniors/EMA/LSA/NEohioPAL; FREE for CIM,
Case, CSA students; $10 other students.
