Seeking actors of all backgrounds to perform a play reading of Now Let Me Fl=
y=20
by award-winning playwright Marcia Cebulska. This inspiring play is based on=
=20
oral histories and personal interviews with the real people involved in the=20
struggle leading to Brown v. Board.  With the invaluable leadership of Thurg=
ood=20
Marshall and the NAACP, Brown v. Board jump-started the civil rights movemen=
t=20
by overturning "Separate But Equal=E2=80=9D.

The play reading is a joint venture of HEIGHTS ARTS and KULTURE KIDS, and=20
will be held in Cleveland Heights (site to be determined) on the evening of=20
Monday, May 17th.  Roles are described below but are NOT limited to the race=
 and/or=20
gender described (non-traditional casting quite likely, depending on=20

A NATION ACTS, to be performed all across the country on May 17, 2004,  is a=

project of the Brown Foundation and Washburn University

These legal strategists are present throughout the play:

* Charles Houston: African-American male, 50s. Law professor. Dean of the=20
Howard University Law School (a historically black university). Mentor to=20
Thurgood Marshall. Moses of the Civil Rights Movement. Known to his students=
 as=20
"Cement Pants" because he was formal, upright and strict. In the play, he ap=
pears=20
as a ghost.
* Thurgood Marshall: African-American male, 40s. Lawyer. Head of the Legal=20
Defense Fund of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peop=
le=20
(NAACP). Lead lawyer arguing the Brown case before the Supreme Court. He is=20
wisecracking, has a grand sense of humor, is easy-going and smart.

*   Cissy Suyat: Filipino-Hawaiian female, 20s.
*   Gardner "Bish" Bishop: African-American male, 35. Barber.
*   Woody: African-American male, 30. WWII vet, customer at barber shop.
*   Eleanor: White female, 16. Student.
*   Barbara Johns: African-American female, 16. Student.
*   Mrs. Gates: White female, any age. Secretary.
*   Mrs. Sarah Bulah: African-American female, 40. Mother, egg seller.
*   Rev. Kilson: African-American male, 45. Preacher.
*   Rev. J.A. DeLaine: African-American male, 40. Preacher.
*   White Man with Gas Can: White male, any age.
*   McKinley Burnett: African-American male, 50. Railroad carpenter.
*   Charles Scott: African-American male, 30. Lawyer.
