CREATIVE ARTS THERAPIES - Since the beginning of time, the arts have
served as a means of entertainment and personal expression. The 20th
Century saw the advent of the creative arts therapies and the effective
and therapeutic uses of the arts to address communication, academic,
motor, emotional and social skills.
Creative arts therapies are the prescribed use of the arts,
therapeutically, to facilitate changes, or to maintain functioning,
which contribute to the quality of life. Music and art therapists serve
people of all ages with special needs. In therapy, the arts are used to
set the occasion for personal growth, so all individuals may further
develop skills that help maximize their potential.
In celebration of creative arts therapies, the Beck Center has once
again teamed up with the Cuyahoga County Board of Mental Retardation and
Developmental Disabilities (CCBMRDD) to bring Razzle Dazzle V. This
year's hit parade features songs from the Silver Screen and familiar
advertising jingles from days gone by. Special guests include
Music-R-Us from CCBMRDD who will perform on Friday, May 14, and
University School Jazz Combo who will perform on Sunday, May 16.
After the performance, you are invited to view a "Razzle Dazzle" display
of artwork created by the distinguished and dedicated artists who
participate in the Beck Center's Creative Arts Therapies program.
This weekend event is sponsored by The Beck Center for the Arts, The
Cuyahoga County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental
Disabilities and the Oatey Company. The performances, which are free
and open to the public, are scheduled for Saturday, May 15th at 7:30
p.m. and Sunday, May 16th at 2:30 p.m. A benefit performance is
scheduled for Friday, May 14th at 7:30 p.m. The cost for this benefit
performance is $10 and includes a reception after the show, as well as
an opportunity to mix and mingle with the fabulous cast and crew! =20
All shows will take place in the Beck Center Music School at the Armory
Building located on the Beck Center campus. Tickets to the Friday night
benefit performance are available by calling the Beck Center Box Office
at (216) 521- 2540. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. The
Beck Center for the Arts is located just 10 minutes from downtown
Cleveland at 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood. For more information on
