It's an unwritten rule that in Northeast Ohio, families and friends
celebrate the July 4th holiday at community picnics where the ribs are
saucy, the music rocks, the weather obliges and the fireworks sizzle.
With that in mind, downtown Akron, Lock 3 park and FirstEnergy Stage is
the place to be on July 2, 3 and 4.

Dubbed the "Akron Family Barbeque" festival, this three-day event whets
the appetite with abundant festival foods and beverages, several
specialty barbeque vendors, a "best barbeque" competition, numerous
Friday and Sunday concerts, an outdoor home show, and many other events.
(Please see attached Schedule.)

"We've created an all-Akron focus for this festival, to bring it all
home for the July 4th holiday and celebrate all the good things that are
here," says Seth Keyes, program director for Akron Civic Theatre and
Lock 3 Live! park. "For example, whether they're known nationally or
regionally, most of the bands are from Akron. And whether you like rock,
soul, funk, jazz, or blues, you can experience all these groups live at
Lock 3 Live! during this festival."

Keyes refers to such well-known performers as The S.O.S. Band, Howard
Hewett, The Black Keys, Slave, The Wanda Hunt Band, For Keeps, Mark
Agnesi & Deep Blue Sea, Denzon & The Road Doggz, and Rare Blend (Please
see attached Fact Sheet with performer bios.)

Spotlighting Akron's young-and yet unknown-talent, Friday night features
the semi-final competitions for "Akron Idol." (Please see separate press
release and Fact Sheet with contestant bios.) Finalists will perform on
Sunday night, after which the winner will be announced.

Since families and friends are enjoying outdoor living more than ever,
the festival includes a small-scale outdoor home show on Main Street.
Homeowners will find inspiration viewing displays of quality products
ranging from grills and patio furniture to gazebos and playgrounds. To
date, participating merchants include Amish Country Builders of Medina
(gazebos, playgrounds, outdoor furniture); Plastic Lumber Company of
Akron (outdoor furniture), and Fireplace Shoppe of Northfield, Inc.
(premium grills).

Of course, no July 4th is complete without pyrotechnics, and Akron's
Fireworks Spectacular display on the inner belt promises the perfect
finale to this celebratory festival.

On Friday, July 2, the festival starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 10 p.m.
Admission is free until 5:30 p.m. and tickets are $5 after 5:30 p.m.
Saturday's hours are 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a $5 admission fee. On
Sunday, July 4, the festival goes from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., with a $5
admission fee.

All tickets include the Outdoor Home Show, Akron Idol Competitions, and
live entertainment. Tokens will be sold for inflatable and mechanical
rides for children. Admission to the festival is free for children under
48 inches. If you bring a canned food item to Lock 3 park to benefit the
Akron/Canton Food Bank, you can buy one ticket at full price and get the
second ticket for half price

Cash-only tickets are sold at the Lock 3 Live! gates 30 minutes before
the festival begins. For advance tickets, call the Akron Civic Theatre
