Subject: [NEohioPAL]Trombonists needed in Bovey, Minnesota, over Labor Day weekend
Message-ID: <200406301843.i5UIhYt8006492 at grieg.bio.ri.ccf.org>

If you need a late summer vacation, you might consider
a trek to Bovey, Minnesota. It's Bovey's 100th anniversary -
see story.
http://www.vnw.org/express/pinnerpage.asp?ipageID=%20'514'

Bovey is in a lovely part of Northern Minnesota. I'll be there
in early August and I am hoping to go back over Labor Day weekend
for this extravaganza (I love the Farmer's Day weekend celebration),
but I don't play the trombone.

Hotels close to Bovey are in Grand Rapids (MN). There is an airport
in Grand Rapids (MN). Or you could fly into
the Twin Cities and drive 170 miles, or fly into Duluth and drive 80
miles, or fly into Hibbing, the closest airport with easy connections from Cleveland.

It would be nice if you could forward this to any adventurous trombone-playing
friends. I'm sending this because I played for director Tom Patnaude in
Coleraine and at Greenway there "up north" when I was younger and the last I heard,
Tom was trying to talk my mother into playing trombone for this event...

76 Trombones needed for Bovey, Minnesota Centennial in 2004

Bovey, Minnesota will be celebrating its 100th year on September 6, 2004. This is planned to be the
biggest wing-ding the city has seen in years. One of the major events is the forming of a 76
Trombones Band under the direction of Tom Patnaude, former Greenway School District Band instructor
and director of the Coleraine City Band. Patnaude says he has had this idea for several years and
now is the time to try it out.

Patnaude is seeking as many trombone players as he can from around the NATION to parade down the
main street of Bovey during the annual Farmer's Day Parade which will be held on Labor Day in 2004.
He would like to establish a record for the most trombones ever gathered in one place to perform
"76 Trombones". The group will also have other arrangements to perform following the parade in a
concert setting in Bovey. Copies of the music will be sent out to those committing to the event.
Patnaude stated he will also need other instrumentation as in any other marching band so drummers,
trumpets, clarinets, etc are also encouraged to register to be a part of this event.

Band members are encourage also to try and get a band uniform of some kind from the towns they are
living in to wear down the street. If none are available there will be special shirts available and
black dress pants or slacks are asked to be worn.

Persons interested should send a letter to Tom Patnaude, 76 Trombones Band, PO Box 147, Bovey, MN
55709

For further information contact Brian Carlson coordinator of this event at brian50 at paulbunyan.net
or call 1-218-327-1522 and leave a message.

and Bovey, Minnesota home of the official State photograph GRACE will be celebrating its centennial
on Farmer's Day...Sept 6, 2004.
