Cats On Holidayrelease eponymous CD

* "Cats On Holiday" is latest release from the band Cats On Holiday
Many fans agree, "It sounds just like them..."
Dateline: Cleveland, Ohio
On July 2, 2004, Cats On Holiday, the roots American band hailing from
the Cuyahoga River Valley, will release their new album, entitled,
appropriately enough, "Cats On Holiday."

You are invited to a Cats On Holiday CD Release
Party on Friday, July 2 at the club 2527, located at 2527 West 25th
Street, just South of the West Side Market. Cats On Holiday will take the stage
at 9PM, and will be offering surprises throughout the evening. For directions
to 2527, call them at 216-771-2527.

The new self-titled disc is available via mail
order. For more information, please contact Denis DeVito at denisdevito at core.com.

----------------------

Mining the rich territory of roots American music,
Cats On Holiday have been incorporating many of the new songs into their
recent live set. Their music, bolstered by the unique line-up of
violin, pedal steel and a blistering lead guitar, has the feel of a train ride
up the Mississippi River, or at least right along side the Mississippi River.
"The sound of the band is actually quite hard to describe," says steel player
"Ace" Dixon, "but I can tell you these new boots make me play a helluva lot
better..."

The new album, self-titled, with its basic tracks
recorded live in a Cleveland honky-tonk, tells tales of battles hard-won (or
hard-lost), of truths discovered along the rocky path of a long life, and of
that strange feeling you get when you wake up and everything has changed. Their
insights into human nature have been honed by too many long nights in
smoke-filled juke joints, which is why they now prefer to play outdoors as
often as possible. "I really don't care where we play," ruminates guitarist
"Ace" Dixon, "as long as my ex-wives don't show up at the gig..."

Opening track and live favorite
"Halloween," speaks of a haunting disability that a brother knows he'll
never fully understand. "Walk Johnny," a jaunty, Beatle-esque swing
number, tells the tale of a World War II veteran who survived the war and now
walks up and down the streets of Lakewood, Ohio with two canes and lot of
determination.

----------------------

The rocker "Rolling Stone," with lyrics adapted
from a 1920's-era poem picked from the trash, relates the familiar life of an
itinerant rock 'n' roller, or is it a less-glamorous migrant worker or a
travelling salesman? With searing steel guitar lines by "Ace" Dixon and a sweet
violin part by Kristine Jares, and inspired by a child digging deep in the
sand, the ballad "Greet The Devil" features the lines: "Digging down to
greet the devil, not exactly sure how deep to go; Guess I'll know when I reach
your level, gotta figure it's awful low..." Like many songs on the disc,
"Only Comes Out At Night," describes the ritual that becomes the
working-man's nightly release. "King Kong" includes this: "I'm gonna
slow down, cause running around, is making me crazy, emotionally lazy..."
Rejecting current popular notions of anorexic beauty, the rockabilly number
"Butterball" professes politically incorrect love for "that plus-size
weight... Save the bone for the dog, leave the meat for the man..." Picking up
a funk beat by drummer Thomas Anonymous and bassist Casey Allen, "Invisible
Man" tells of the father behind the man. The slow-dance "Boardwalk,"
inspired by Denis DeVito's sojourn along the boardwalk at Santa Cruz,
California, will make you believe that "underneath the neon lights, the
future's bright, again tonight..." And what would a Cats On Holiday disc be
without a tribute to that favorite pasttime of everyone in the band,
"Drinkin'" with the lines, "Well, I'm sittin' on a barstool, sippin' on
some gin; Liver is a muscle, gotta work it in..." also features some hot
pickin' by guitarist Rick Christyson.

Meet Cats On Holiday
The band, made up of ex-members of various punk, new wave and country bands, is
constantly in a state of flux, making a list of current members almost
pointless, but here's a recent line-up:
Denis DeVito writes most of the songs, sings
lead a lot, and takes the time to book the band and sell the merchandise (it's
his guitar case where you will find the CDs, t-shirts and refrigerator magnets
at a gig).
Casey Allen hails from Seattle, where he learned
to play bass while remaining nonchalant. He is the best-looking member of the
band and has the coolest shirts.
Rick Christyson ("The Rock Dog") plays every gig
like it's his last, and, let's face it, he's probably right. He serves as music
director of the band and his scintillating lead guitar figures cause joy and
wonder to the ear.
"Ace" Dixon (who started life as "Jack" Dixon,
then graduated to "Queen" Dixon... well, you get the idea...) is one of only
three people in Cleveland, Ohio who play the pedal steel, the lap steel, and
the Hawaiian ukulele with a perfectly straight face. He's lived a hard life,
and thus is the best storyteller in the band.
Kristine Jares is the tallest member of the band,
which means her violin bow doesn't put out an eye when the band plays the
smaller venues. She plays a white Fender electric violin, leading many to
wonder whether she's more influenced by Jean Luc-Ponty than Bill Monroe.
Thomas Anonymous learned how to play drums at age
10 and has been trying to forget ever since. He has stripped his drum set down
to a snare drum and a hi-hat, although his electronic bass drum is an advantage
his rockabilly heroes never had.

What They're Saying "Cats, which draw
inspiration from the Kinks, the Talking Heads, Elvis Costello and Cajun music,
doesn't have a booking agent, a press agent, or any other kind of agent..."
Plain Dealer

"Fun stuff...very well put together for all that fun...part Talking Heads in
its clever use of rhythms and grooves, the other part NRBQ in its fun use of a
wide variety of musical styles...deft musicianship and a light intellectual
touch...sharp arrangements and production... They take shots at ex-loves,
barroom drunks, their own 'rustbelt rut', and individuals without being mean,
just funny...Like a Seinfeld episode, intelligently humorous and well
performed..." Music Reviews Quarterly
