Hello!
It’s that time of year again! It’s time for Newfangled Productions’ biggest fundraiser of the year – The Starving Artists Ball - and we hope you can attend. This past year we’ve been quite busy. Here’s a recap:

1. Sexual Perversity in Chicago – We started the year off with Josh Douglas’ production of David Mamet’s breakthrough play Sexual Perversity in Chicago which got some great reviews and sold old every night. Part of its popularity came from Douglas intermixing a jazz singer into the mix of characters, adding pointed commentary on the action of the play with songs ranging from the likes of Johnny Cash to Frank Sinatra to Frank Zappa.

2. Linda Kahn: Creativity, a Healthy Defense - Linda Kahn combined dance, text and her personal experiences into a special lecture / performance on using creativity to overcome grief and loss. Her lecture featured two of her acclaimed dance pieces to highlight her speech and helped demonstrate how she had overcome her grief healthfully and effectively through her choreography.

3. A Newfangled Halloween - Four members of the Newfangled board of trustees created a special performance for a group of 54 kids for the Goodyear Branch of the Akron Public Library. Stories, games, coloring and Halloween carols (yes, there are such things) made up this fun event.

4. Newfangled’s Leaf Tour 2003 - Newfangled Productions gets down and dirty for our fall fundraiser. The Newfangled Board of Trustees (plus the occasional husband - after all, isn't that what they're for?) brave the elements to make the lawns of northeastern Ohio a leaf-free place for a low, low price.

5. Bums: A Musical – Under Construction - Local authors Jess Meyer and Mary Collins have devised a devilishly delightful experimental musical comedy. At least, we think that's what it is! Newfangled sponsored a special workshop performance of this new work. This free performance was followed by a discussion session with the authors, a discussion panel and the audience. Long live the beaver!

6. Purim Carnevale – This wonderful collaboration brought Newfangled Productions, Ensemble Ciaramella and The Cleveland Museum of Art together. Musician Anna Levenstein, playwright Omri Yavin and director Megan Elk created a wonderful combination of period Commedia dell'Arte text, music and dance based on the first Hebrew play, A Comedy of Betrothal by Leone de Sommi.

7. Beat the Heat - Read! - Newfangled Productions returned to the Akron Public Library's Goodyear Branch for another fun morning of games, music and stories. We taught the kids some summer dance moves, read "The Rainbow Fish" together and then they decorated their own fish which they traded with their friends.

As you see, we accomplished a great deal this year and we want to thank you for your support. We have many more plans for this coming year and we hope you can attend our special fundraising event. Newfangled Productions is a non-profit organization and most of our annual funding comes from The Starving Artists Ball, so please help us to continue our programs by attending. We hope to see you there and throughout the course of the year!

Sincerely,
Oliver Corrigan
