Decades after the dawn of traditional folk music, there's a new genre of
good-time tunes to mellow out the masses, and a new generation of
ever-lovin' fans. On Saturday, July 10, Lock 3 Live! sets the stage for
aptly named Not-Your-Father's Folk Fest, featuring a contemporary crowd
that blends folk and rock with a pinch of pop, a sprinkle of jazz and a
dash of country.

The FirstEnergy Stage will spotlight national and international singers,
songwriters and musicians whose memorable songs and meaningful lyrics
captivate audiences. Patty Larkin, Trout Fishing in America, Vance
Gilbert, the bluehouse, and Eleni Kelakos are among the accomplished
performers who can tell a good story with words and music.=20

=20

Billed by Billboard magazine as "an absolutely stunning guitarist,
easily on a par with Bonnie Raitt," Patty Larkin is also an esteemed
vocalist and songwriter. Larkin's 10th album "Red =3D Luck" is a
collection of compelling songs with Middle Eastern, Celtic, and pop
influences. Born in Milwaukee and based in Cape Cod, Larkin creates and
performs music that merits attention with mesmerizing melodies and
thought-provoking lyrics - all the while distinguishing herself with
meticulous musicianship.

Trout Fishing In America (Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood) isn't just a
powerhouse of instrumental and vocal talent - the duo is also a rare mix
of musicianship, humor and inspiration. Crossing boundaries from folk to
blues, their collection of "family listening" songs is peppered with
'60s pop, a bit of the Gen-X beat, and a dash of other distinctive
elements. Trout Fishing In America has received 20-plus national awards
for their recordings and live performance, including three prestigious
INDIE Album of the Year Awards.=20

Born and raised in Philly, Vance Gilbert is a masterful songwriter, an
accomplished guitarist, a virtuoso singer, and a spellbinding performer.
Ft. Worth Star-Telegram credited Gilbert with "the voice of an angel,
the wit of a devil and the guitar of a god." His latest release "One
Thru Fourteen" is the culmination of 12 years road experience and four
acclaimed albums. Whatever the cut, Gilbert's catchy, pop-friendly
melodies support hard-hitting lyrics - and his pure tenor voice pours
over one mesmerizing melody after another.

Ever since Samantha Harley, Jacqueline Walter and Bernadette Carroll
formed the bluehouse in 1995, they've received international
recognition, selling out shows in Australia, London, England and
Edinburgh, and playing such prestigious festivals as California
WorldFest, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, and
others. Described as a combo of delicious folk-pop, drop-dead gorgeous
singing, and wickedly mouthy humor, bluehouse ranks right alongside kd
lang and Indigo Girls.

=20

Best known as a passionate, story-spinning troubadour on the national
folk circuit, Eleni Kelakos is also a seasoned actress. Her three CDs
have received excellent reviews and considerable airplay on national
folk, acoustic and women's music stations, and she's toured such venues
as the Kennedy Center and Kerrville Folk Festival, among others. Kelakos
lush, commanding voice is described by Music Reviews Quarterly as having
"...an almost shocking clarity, unlike any singer since Joan Baez."

Apropos to the "folk" festival theme, volunteers and staff of Cuyahoga
Valley National Park will share Akron's folk history via tours of the
Ohio & Erie Canal. Kids can learn to make beaded necklaces, instruments,
and tie-dye tees-with shirts provided by the City of Akron. Children can
also play on inflatable rides, including a bungee trampoline, moon walk,
and a rock climbing wall. Festival fare includes specialty foods
including pizza, burgers, hot dogs, fries and chips, sandwiches, subs,
gyros, pitas, Italian sausage, pulled pork, handmade ice-cream cones,
fruit cups, and more.

The Not-Your-Father's Folk Festival runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on July
10 at Lock 3 Live! Park and FirstEnergy Stage on Main Street in downtown
Akron, located next to the Akron Civic Theatre. A $10 admission charge
to the festival includes all concerts and entertainment associated with
this event, with the exclusion of inflatable rides for children, where
tokens will be sold. Admission to the festival is free for children
under 48 inches. If you bring a canned food item to Lock 3 park to
benefit the Akron/Canton Food Bank, you can buy one ticket at full price
and get the second ticket for half price.=20

Cash-only tickets are sold at the Lock 3 Live! gates 30 minutes before
show time. For advance tickets, call the Akron Civic Theatre Box Office
