The North Canton Playhouse announces auditions for Dark of the Moon by
Howard Richardson and William Berney. This play will be directed by Dick
Reiss. This frightening tale is based on the haunting Ballad of Barbara
Allen. Set in the Smoky Mountains, it recounts the story of an elfin witch
boy who, upon seeing the beautiful Barbara Allen, fell immediately in love
with her. He is transformed to human form so he can woo and marry her, on
the condition that she remain true to him for one year.
The production dates are October 8th-23rd, 2004, Friday-Sunday, with two
shows on Saturday, October 23rd.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 8th from 7-9 pm, Tuesday, August 10
from 7-9 pm, with callbacks as needed on Wednesday, August 11th, all at NCP
525 7th St. NE.
All roles are available for actors ages 15-80. Principal roles include:
John, very good looking, 18-25
Barbara Allen, very good looking, 18-25
Preacher Haggler, imposing, charismatic, 35-60
Marvin Hudgens, hulking bully in love with Barbara, 20-35
Conjure Man and Woman, should project great age and power
Uncle Smelicue, mischievous old man, 60-80
Dark Witch and Fair Witch, malevolent spirits, must be able to move very
well, 15-30
15-20 Townspeople, speaking and non-speaking roles, ages 15-60. Some singing
and dancing required.
