Local composer (Beachwood) Alan Higbee won the 2003 "Welcome Christmas!" =
Carol Contest sponsored by The American Composers Forum and =
VocalEssence, a Minneapolis choir directed by Philip Brunelle.  The =
winning composition is a fresh setting of In The Bleak Midwinter using a =
newly-composed melody. It is set for unaccompanied SATB choir and oboe. =
If you would like to consider this work for your winter concert, please =
contact Alan Higbee for a preview copy of In The Bleak Midwinter.

Alan Higbee has since won the Long Island Arts Council's 30th =
Anniversary Choral Composition Competition with his setting of a Tagore =
text entitled My Song Will Speak.  Set for SATB choir and piano, this =
piece was premiered by the Bel Canto Chorale on May 8, 2004 at the =
Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY.  My Song Will Speak has =
been accepted for publication by Hal Leonard Music and will be available =
later this year.

Higbee is currently completing a commission for the Association for =
Music in International Schools.  His new work for women's voices will be =
premiered at the High School Honors Music Festival at the John F. =
Kennedy School in Berlin, Germany in March 2005.
