Funny play is controversial, too=20

The funniest play scheduled for Cleveland-area stages this fall might =
prove to be the most controversial as well.
http://www.cleveland.com/fallguide/

Jonathan Reynolds' "Stonewall Jackson's House" is about a black woman =
who serves as a tour guide in the haphazardly restored home of a =
Confederate general. Partway through a tour one day, she stops and begs =
a well-to-do Ohio couple to take her home as their personal slave.=20

According to critics who have seen the comedy, it is not only funny, it =
is viciously, unapologetically and brutally funny, questioning our =
assumptions about race and bigotry and turning many of our politically =
correct views on sensitive subjects on their heads.=20
   =20
Terrence Spivey, the new artistic director at Karamu Performing Arts =
Theatre Cleveland's leading black theater and the oldest in the country =
is the man responsible for bringing the play to Cleveland.=20

It runs Wednesday, Oct. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 21, at the intimate =
Arena Theatre at Karamu House, 2355 East 89th St., Cleveland. Tickets =
are $8 to $14. The number to call is 216-795-7070.=20
