NOVEMBER 15, 2004

Kalliope Stage Presents Regional Premier of The Christmas Carol Rag November 26.
New musical The Christmas Carol Rag showcases Cleveland’s own Adina Bloom as Evelyn Scrooge under the direction of Paul F. Gurgol.

New musical THE CHRISTMAS CAROL RAG, makes its regional debut November 26 through December 19 at Kalliope Stage at Cedar & Lee in Cleveland Heights. Kalliope Stage will be only the second theater in the country to perform this musical. Performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm. For tickets go to www.KalliopeStage.com, or phone 216 321 0870.

Paul F. Gurgol, Kalliope’s award-winning artistic director, directs this new musical written by Norman Allen, based on the popular Dickens novel. Cleveland’s own Adina Bloom stars as Evelyn Scrooge with fellow Equity actor Molly McGinnis as chain-rattling partner Janet Marley. A haunted sweatshop in old New York brings out all the usual suspects with some unexpected twists. A Yiddish-speaking Ghost of Christmas Past and gospel-belting Christmas Present share a message of love and redemption in this brilliantly funny and surprisingly touching new story. Director Gurgol says “I was inspired by the way this script puts the focus on all children as the hope of the future. It really makes the story universal.” The foot-stomping ragtime score and witty script are a treat for all ages.

ADINA BLOOM stars as Evelyn Scrooge in her Kalliope debut. She has performed nationally in summer stock, dinner, and regional theaters. Local credits include Bratenahl Playhouse; Halle Theater; Ensemble Theater; Caesar’s Forum; Cain Park; Cleveland Opera, and Great Lakes Theater Festival. In addition to stage work, Adina is a big band singer, cabaret artist, and voiceover talent.

New York talent JOHN F. HERGET IV plays the role of Scrooge’s nephew Fred. Local Equity actor MOLLY MCGINNIS is featured as Janet Marley. HALLE BARNETT returns to the stage as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Recording artist KIMBERLY-FAIN BRYANT plays the Ghost of Christmas Present. And Kalliope’s founders JOHN PAUL BOUKIS and PAUL F. GURGOL take to the stage for the holidays as Bob Cratchitt and Fezziwig.
