FAIRMOUNT CENTER NAMES FRED STERNFELD ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF THEATRE 

The Fairmount Center announced today that Fred Sternfeld has been named
Associate Director of Theatre, working alongside Executive Director Tom
Fulton.  "Fred is coming on board with us to help rejuvenate the theatre
program at the Center," said Mr. Fulton.  "His involvement is part of
Fairmount's extensive initiative to add a professional training and
performance component to the already robust programming here.  Fred will
help shape the future of all aspects of theatre activities from training, to
programming, to production."  The Fairmount Center already offers the
Fairmount Performing Arts Camp during the summer.  Their plans are to extend
that initiative to be year round.  

Mr. Sternfeld, a professional director and teacher, has an impressive
Theatre background.  As an administrator, Fred has served as Cultural &
Performing Art Director / Artistic Director at the Seattle & Dallas Jewish
Community Centers and as Artistic Director at Lakewood Little Theatre - Beck
Center for the Arts.  

He is a  free lance director in the Cleveland area, garnering numerous
honors and awards: Fiddler on the Roof at Cain Park received six 'Times
Theatre Tribute 2003' awards and a mention as one of the best productions of
the year in Cleveland Scene; The Tale of the Allergist's Wife at Dobama
Theatre was named 'best production of 2003' by critic Herb Hammer; Man of La
Mancha at the JCC Halle Theatre received five 'Times Theatre Tribute 2002'
awards; Stephen Sondheim's Saturday Night at Beck Center was honored with a
Cleveland Scene 'Best of Cleveland 2002' Award as 'Best Musical; The Sound
of Music at Cain Park received a 'Times Theatre Tribute 2001' award for
direction and The Cleveland Scene honored Fred as 'Best Theatrical Dynamo'
in 2002. Northern Ohio Live Magazine as one of Cleveland's "best and
brightest baby boomers under 40" and by Seattle's Eastside Week as an
"outstanding young professional under 40."

Over the span of his career, he has directed over 60 productions, including
the recently closed production of Ragtime at Tri-C East, in conjunction with
the Jewish Community Center.  Ragtime garnered rave reviews from all sides,
including the Plain Dealer's reviewer Carolyn Jack, who stated:
"Sternfeld's inventiveness and attention to detail makes you feel as if you
really were watching America live its own history. a magnificent show . so
gorgeously professional and emotionally powerful that, at first, you only
can gape at it, astounded."  

Thomas Q. Fulton, Jr., Executive Artistic Director for the Center, is very
enthusiastic about Mr. Sternfeld's involvement and the talent he brings to
the table.  "Fred has directed me three times.  His work with actors is
