Advance tickets for the film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber=92s THE
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA go on sale this Friday, December 17th.
=20
The film, directed by Joel Schumacher from a screenplay by Schumacher
and Lloyd Webber, stars Mystic River=92s Emmy Rossum as Christine and
Angels in America=92s Patrick Wilson as Raoul, with Gerard Butler
(Timeline) in the title role.
=20
The story of the disfigured musical genius who possesses the soul of a
young ing=E9nue has been retold several times on stage and film since
Gaston Leroux=92s novel was published in 1911, but Lloyd Webber=92s
grandiose musical is one of its most memorable reincarnations, having
played on Broadway in what is looking to become the longest stage
musical run of all time. On the big screen for the first time, the
movie-musical also stars Oscar-nominee Miranda Richardson (The Crying
Game) as Mme. Giry, Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral) as
Piangi, and Minnie Driver as the reigning opera diva, Carlotta.
=20
You=92ve no doubt seen the stage production, whether on Broadway, at the
Pantages in Toronto, or during one of its several stops in town, but
you=92ve never quite seen it like this. Beleaguered in several attempts =
to
come to the screen=97the film was set to shoot in 1990 when one of the
leads suffered a messy divorce from the show=92s creator, and several =
men
have been reportedly attached to the lead role, including John Travolta,
Antonio Banderas, and Michael Crawford, who originated the role in New
York=97the film will finally be released on Wednesday, December 22nd,
across the U.S.
=20
Be one of the first to see the film at the Cedar Lee Theatre, where
Chicago played to packed houses a few short years ago, and where we plan
to continue to offer the best in specialty programming for the silver
screen.
=20
Tickets may be purchased at the Cedar Lee box office starting Friday, or
online at
