In keeping with The Fairmount Center's professional training initiative, the
Center is continuing to grow its faculty to include some of the finest
professional talents to share their knowledge, talent and expertise with our
students.

To that end, we are delighted and proud to announce the addition of our
newest dance instructor, Mark Otloski.   

 

Mr. Otloski will be teaching advanced ballet class (Ballet IV) for the
Fairmount Dance Theatre during the winter session (January - March) at The
Fairmount Center.  He joins dancer/instructors Melissa Gruca and Tennille
Craig rounding out a professional training program in tap, ballet, jazz, hip
hop and pointe.

 

In 1979 Mr. Otloski was invited to join the Cleveland Ballet, under the
direction of Dennis Nahat, and for 22 years established himself as one of
the company's leading danseurs. In that time he performed an extensive range
of Principal and Soloist roles such as Prince Siegfried in SWAN LAKE, the
Baron in GAITE PARISIENNE, Tsar Nicoli in THE NUTCRACKER, and Oberon in A
MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM, as well as having performed nearly every ballet in
the company's repertory. Excelling in the dramatic, some of his more notable
roles included Death in THE GREEN TABLE, Von Rothbart in SWAN LAKE, Lord
Capulet in ROMEO & JULIET, Iago in THE MOOR'S PAVANE and originated the role
of Boss Man in the company's production of BLUE SUEDE SHOES.

 

In the Ohio area Mr. Otloski has appeared in several summer stock musicals
with Kenley Players including BRIGADOON (1980) and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
(1986), performed in Cleveland Opera's production of AIDA (1985, 1991) and
SAMSON & DELILAH (2000) and was a participant in the 1989 Ohio Dance
Festival. Outside of the Ohio area Mr. Otloski appeared at the 1990
Edinburgh Festival in Flemming Flindt's production of THE OVERCOAT with
Rudolph Nureyev. He was also a participant in the 1988 Spoleto Festival in
Charleston, South Carolina and performed at the San Jose Dance Festival

(1998) and the III Annual International Ballet Festival of Miami (1998).

 

Mr. Otloski is a former rehearsal assistant of the Cleveland/San Jose Ballet
and former ballet master of Ballet San Jose of Silicon Valley. He has taught
master classes and been a guest faculty member for the Cecchetti Council of
America annual seminar (1998), conducts annual summer seminars at the Flint
School for Performing Arts and workshops for the Livonia Civic Ballet
Company. In addition to his teaching at the Fairmount Arts Center and the
Jordan Center for the Arts he has been a guest teacher at the Cleveland
School of Dance, Cleveland City Dance and is currently outreach coordinator
and performing artist with GroundWorks Dancetheater under the direction of
David Shimotakahara

 

Dance classes at Fairmount for the winter session includes:  PRE BALLET,
BALLET, BALLET II TAP/JAZZ,Tap/Jazz, BALLET III, TAP II , JAZZ III,  BALLET
IV (taught by Mark Otloski and Tennille Craig ) TAP IV, JAZZ IV,  BALLET V,
POINTE V,  BEG/INT POINTE,  TAP V, Tap V,  JAZZ V.  In addition, the
Fairmount Center offers classes in Spanish Dance, taught by Fairmount's
Director of the School of Dance, Libby Lubinger.
