FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEJanuary 6, 2005
SAVELLI DANCE PRESENTS
Rhythm ISS
and Friends
and the 2nd annual weekend of explosive tap dancing
Cleveland, OH January 3, 2005 For the second year in a row, you can see some of the most amazing tap dancers in the country at this annual weekend of explosive tap dancing, complete with student showcase, professional tap performance, and master classes. On Saturday, January 15 at 8pm, Rhythm ISS
and Friends will perform at the Lakeland Community College Performing Arts Center in Kirtland, OH. On Sunday, January 16 starting at 9am, and continuing throughout the day, a wide selection of master classes will be offered (tap, jazz, and musical theater) at Savelli Dance in Mentor.
Performers and teachers include Jennifer Savelli, who has performed in numerous Broadway shows, including Fosse and the Boy from Oz, as well as the motion picture Chicago; dancer/choreographers Jay and Connie Fagan, aka Sibling Rivalry; and Sarah Savelli and Rhythm ISS
, a Chicago based all-female tap company founded in 1995 by (I)della Reed, (S)arah Savelli, and (S)haron Rushing (ISS). Reviewed in the October 2003 issue of Dance Magazine as a quintet of women rhythm tappers impressive as much for their exuberant spirit as for their blistering footwork, Rhythm ISS
has performed and taught master classes nationally and internationally to rave reviews. The company continues to electrify audiences with shows that include every style of tap dancing; with an eclectic repertoire that includes rhythm tap, jazz tap, hoofing, funk, and hip hop. They have been featured in many tap festivals and benefits, including the 2003 Tap Extravaganza and the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, as well as
conceiving and producing many shows of their own. Rhythm ISS
is also featured in the PBS documentary Juba! The Masters of Tap and Percussive Dance (co-produced by Chicago Human Rhythm Project), and in the April 2003 issue of Dance Teacher Now. Incorporating all styles of tap dancing with the feminine flare they have become known for, Rhythm ISS
strives to preserve the art of tap dancing while inspiring future generations of girls who are looking for footsteps to follow.
Returning also for a second year as a performer and teacher is Jumaane Taylor, a phenomenal up and coming tap dancer from Chicago. Known for his amazing and intricate footwork, Jumaane is representing the newest generation of tap as a member of M.A.D.D. Rhythms, a Chicago based tap company.
If you love to tap, dont miss this! The Rhythm ISS
and Friends performance will be held on Saturday, January 15 at 8pm at Lakeland Community College Performing Arts Center, 7700 Clocktower Dr, Kirtland, OH 44094. Tickets for the performance are $12 for adults and $10 for children 8 and under. The master classes will be held on January 16 starting at 9am at Savelli Dance, 7516 Tyler Blvd, Mentor, OH 44060. Night Kitchen presents Stephen Belber's "Tape"
In its latest production, Night Kitchen at Dobama Theatre delves into
the questions of motive, memory, truth and perception. "Tape", by
Stephen Belber, will open January 21 and run Friday and Saturday
nights at 9 p.m., and Sunday nights at 7 p.m. through February 6.
Directed by Adrienne Moon, "Tape" chronicles the sordid events of one
evening when two high school friends meet up 10 years after
graduation.
Jon, an aspiring filmmaker (played by Justin Tatum), gets together
with his high school buddy, Vince (played by Greg Wenz) to celebrate
the showing of his film in an area festival. Over the course of the
evening Vince forces Jon into a startling and disturbing confession,
throwing into question the events of one evening 10 years ago. Kristen
Ashenbach makes her Night Kitchen debut as Amy, Vince's high school
flame.
The Wall Street Journal said of the show, "When it comes to reminding
us just why we leave our homes on a cold winter's night and seek the
special joys of a live theatrical performance, playwright Stephen
Belber has the big guys beat."
Local artisans also contributed to the show. CWRU student Lindsey
McGowen serves as the production stage manager with lights by Steven
Brumlow, set design by Paul Gatzke and sound by Matt Schloss. James
Beaudry serves as fight choreographer.
For tickets and reservations call the Night Kitchen Box Office at
216-932-3396. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for general
admission. Dobama Theatre is located at 1846 Coventry Road in
Cleveland Heights. Visit us on the Internet at www.dobama.org.
Night Kitchen at Dobama Theatre seeks to nurture and support young
developing artists. Night Kitchen provides a venue for experimental
and edgy work that stretches traditional theatrical boundaries. The
company allows emerging artists to develop their craft while providing
high quality theater in the Cleveland area.
