 The Oberlin College Improv Conference (OCIC) is an annual event that offers a supportive environment where aspiring artists are encouraged to explore the art of improvisational theater, dance, and music alongside professional improvisers from across the nation. The conference events consist of two professional improv shows; a myriad of workshops taught by professionals, students and faculty; an all-night improv show featuring local and visiting student troupes; panel discussions; special episodes of both Oberlin improvised teen dramas; and some serious partying. <o:p></o:p>

HE PLAYS/ SHE PLAYS <o:p></o:p>
This workshop will focus on how scenes and characters develop from the male and female mindset and how gender combinations affect the playing of scenes with similar subject matter.<o:p></o:p>

Zach Ward (The Beatbox)
HAROLD INSIDE THE MATRIX
Load the jump program. This workshop will break you free from the rules of Harold while maintaining the awesome structure of Harold. It will teach you to play without limitations and to understand that the moment you step onstage you are jacked in, and anything is possible, if you want it. Learn that improv rules exist but they are able and meant to be broken. You will simplify games within scenes, you will draw energy from blackout edits, exploding your second beats into structured roman numerals, learn how to make Harold work for you. Dodge bullets, escape thru a telephone, and practice Kung-Fu. Have more fun after you start to improvise Harold inside The Matrix.

<TT>KICK THAT FUNKY SHHHT <o:p></o:p></TT>
<TT>Rene Duquesnoy will teach you the key elements of doing a Beatbox show. Freestyle rap, scratchbacks, and sampling are a few of the effects that you will learn while working on this fast paced and exciting form.  Learn how to enhance a scene by adding quick hiphop tricks.  Grandma and Farmer Ted getting into an arguement in a scene? <errrah> Let's settle it with an 8-mile style rap battle!<o:p></o:p></TT>

VAPAPO
Jill Bernard offers a character toolkit to give participants the ability to create strong, compelling characters that they can hang onto through the whole scene. This session will focus on using Voice, Attitude or Posture, and Animal, Prop or Obsession to build instant characters.  Participants will use these tools to fearlessly initiate scenes, create relationships and find agreement.<o:p></o:p>

Going solo to improve your group improv skills.
 
Asaf Ronen (Imp)
BREAKING OUT OF THE SCENE<o:p></o:p>
Learn to play with longform edits as inspired by film, to roll with whatever is going on in the scene and to add new twists onto the usual dynamics.<o:p></o:p>

Karen Wight (Imp)<o:p></o:p>
FUN IN PHYSICALITY<o:p></o:p>
This class incorporates elements of clowning, mime, and environmental work and applies them to improv scene work. By freeing up the body, the student will discover new characters, different approaches to creating a relationship onstage, and tools to add variety to their scene work.<o:p></o:p>

Student and faculty workshops are TBA, but will consist of at least one workshop on the basics of improv, one workshop on improvisational dance, and one workshop on improvisational music. These workshops will be taught at a level that is accessible to all skill levels, and will be offered to high school students as well as college students.
