Hi, all. Just thought you'd like to hear a response from an area producer on my essay "Entertainment Whoredom". After reading it, if you have any doubts as to what we're up against, I hope you'll think again. I wouldn't normally do this, but I've consulted many friends in the biz and have been unanimously advised to post it.

The letter is from Rick Ferguson. He is a producer at WOIO TV (Channels 19 and 43, I think, but don't quote me). My goal here, ladies and gentlemen, is not to hurt anyone, but perceptions have to change. If you've done nothing to spur change, then maybe now's the time for you to stand up and join the few. Together, we can become many.

Just because someone calls themself an actor or getsin a union doesn't mean they actually have any talent.I've audition plenty of these so called actors andthey don't deserve a dime. They have no skill, notraining, no concept of reality actually. If you want to make your living as an actor, move to atown that is willing to pay you. But more than that, have a marketable skill. If I found one actor inCleveland who I thought has some sort of uniqueability then I'd pay em. But there's very few actingjobs in cleveland that couldn't be done by a millionother wannabees. Supply and demand pure and simple. Getting paid to act is a bonus, something that isearned thru hard work, talent and a heck of a lot ofluck. It's not a right. I have tons of freinds who are in unions who arekicking themselves because of all the cool projectsthey can't participate in because it's "non-union" Ithink this organizations do more to stifle an actorscareer than help them. Especially if they join toosoon. So if you
wanna full time job as paid actor incleveland, better learn the Safe Auto Jingle, cuz Ihear they pay pretty good.. and keep their prices lowby hiring NON UNION wannabees to be in their spots. Cheers.====="Believe me, there are days when I wish I wasn't so goddamn delicious." 7/22/04
