Hi-

I'm not an actor, although as an undergrad theater major, I was forced to act
occasionally, cementing my determination not to be one! I supported myself
for many years doing music photography and it is still my passion and part of my
income. I heard the line about doing it "for exposure" at a time when my
work was internationally known. I learned that if you do something for free,
people will expect you ALWAYS to work for free. Luckily I learned it early, so I
always tried to change a little something, even when I was in school, even if
it was just enough to cover film. Someone else mentioned a sliding scale, and
I've always done that too, charging the local band paying for the session from
their day jobs a lot less than Sony or Universal, the Todd Rundgren fanzine a
fraction of what I got from National Inquirer or the New York Times. I have
always selectively done a handful of projects for free, but it's important to
know WHY you are doing those particular things, and make sure that it is
something of value to you.
