As a junior high and high school student in the late '50's and early
'60's, I devoured the plays of Arthur Miller in print, although I
didn't have a chance to see one performed on stage until somewhat
later. He always seemed to me to be such an essentially Jewish and
essentially American playwright, the connection I felt was both
visceral & intellectual.

So it was inescapable that when I took an acting course in college I
would select Linda Loman's "attention must be paid" speech as a final
monologue.

In addition, my first date with my husband of 33 years was to see a
college production of "The Crucible"; we have attended numerous other
Miller plays together over the years, including production at Cleveland
Playhouse, Halle Theatre, and on Broadway ("The Ride Down Mt. Morgan").

Please do yourself a favor & access the New York Times' coverage of his
death & life on line>
