I have been a subscriber to this list for over 6
months now and although I do see experimental music,
performance and popular artistic events on this list
from time to time, I wonder to what extent the list is
used to inform and educate folks about art and
performance outside of the realm of standard and
"safe" events.

Any ideas regarding ways to get folks who are less
mainstream to participate on this list or the Yahoo
group. We do not seem to be as inclusive or
evangelistic(in the non-religious sense) as we might
be.

Many years ago I was involved with NEA in producing a
paper on the economic imapct of arts on communities
and it seems to me that this issue is not nearly as
important to the general arts community as it should
be.

Why aren't we empahsizing this impact for ALL kinds of
groups? Let's get on the ball friends. I routinely
post links to the list on EB Forum as well as Ohio Jam
Bands. What are you doing?

So,

Having watched the post meeting discussion heat up I
have a question. Since there seems to be a position
held by a number of folks that unionization is the way
to go, does this mean that art is the end product and
artists are actually tradesmen?

Collective bargaining is supposed to be an equalizer
so does this mean that all "artists" are equal? Does
this mean that JLO has a comparable worth to Gwyneth
Paltrow or Twyla Tharp comparable to Paula Abdul?

This is a meaty issue that is relevant in any
discussion of compensation or for that matter art in
general.

I have been a member of several performing arts
associated unions including AE as well as Teamsters
and I think the entire universe of collective
bargaining and "task performed" is very askew.

Comments please
