RE: Ohio Arts Council's Budget

The Ohio House of Representatives has begun the final stages of their
first
consideration of the Biennial Budget.  The Executive Budget submitted by
the Governor contains a recommendation of $20,476,322.  If this
recommendation survives the entire budget process, the Ohio Arts Council
will be REDUCED to an appropriation which is the level granted in 1992.
THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN!

As one of Ohio's leading arts advocates, please contact your House member
asking for the largest possible appropriation for the Ohio Arts Council. 
We believe the appropriation should be at least $24,670,205, which is the
amount ORIGINALLY appropriated for the current biennium.  During your
visit
or phone call with your legislator share the value of the Ohio Arts
Council's grant awards to your organization and community.

Special pleas should be directed to the Speaker, Jon Husted (R-Dayton) and
the House leadership as well as the membership of the House Finance
Committee, Rep. Charles Calvert, (R-Medina), Chair.

After House passage of its version of the budget, the action moves to the
Ohio Senate with a vote expected in late May.  The all important
Conference
Committee will occur in June where the differences between the House,
Senate, and Governor will be resolved and the new budget will be enacted
by
June 30.
