2005 Summer Theatre Arts Camp

Audition Date:
Sunday, April 10, 2005
1:00-8:30 pm in Room 212
Auditions required.
Call the Fine Arts Front Office at (440) 951-7500 to schedule an
appointment. Auditions are for acceptance and placement into the program.
ALL levels of experience will be considered.
What to prepare:
* a one minute monologue (a short single character speech) from a play
or a book. (Memorization of monologue is preferred, but not mandatory)
* a song of 16-18 bars of music. Student must bring sheet music in
the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.
* Student should dress comfortably for dance.
Camp Description:
Summer Theatre Arts Camp is designed to enrich, educate and introduce young
people to the creative world of the theatre. This six-week summer program,
from June 20 through July 31, 2005 covers the theatrical aspects of music,
dance, theatre and art. Students meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from
9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Attendance during the sixth week and all of the
performances is mandatory.
Students will understand how all the arts interrelate during classes and
rehearsals. Lessons in acting methods, dance technique/composition,
voice/music skills and visual art design will be taught. Collaboration,
creative problem solving, stage presence and backstage protocol are also
emphasized.
In order to give more individual attention to each student, the enrollment
is limited to only 78 students.
What do students do all day?
All students meet in the theatre at 9:30 am for morning notes and then
divide into 6 groups that are age appropriate. Each group attends classes
in music, dance, theatre and art. There is also rehearsal time when
students will prepare for the final program All the World's a Stage.
A lunch and recess break (students will bring their own brown bag lunch)
takes place at midday.
All students return to the theatre at 2:45 pm for daily closing notes.
Dismissal is promptly at 3:00 pm.
Tuition: $355 per camper
Final Production:
The final production showcases the students during the final week of class.
This year's production is Happy Talk, songs and scenes from the Broadway
musicals of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II.
Rodgers & Hammerstein were true pioneers of the American Musical Theatre art
form, beginning with the landmark musical, Oklahoma! and continuing with
Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, The Sound of Music, Flower Drum
Song and others.
Production dates: July 29 & 30 at 7:30 pm and July 30 & 31 at 3:00 pm.
