1980s superstar recording artist Pat Benatar joins Cleveland's own Contemporary Youth Orchestra in a concert titled "Fire Away," on Tuesday, May 24, at CSU's Waetjen Auditorium (in the Music and Communications Building at Euclid and E. 21st Street).  Joined by her husband, Parma native Neil Giraldo -- who is also her songwriter, producer and lead guitarist -- Benatar will sing 11 of her songs with the 100-member orchestra.  CYO's members are amoung the best young musicians in this region, representing more than 40 communities.
 
This concert is the fifth in CYO's annual Rock the Orchestra series.  Past concerts have included Ray Manzerak (the Doors), Graham Nash (the Hollies; Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Jon Anderson (Yes).

The Rock the Orchestra Music Festival includes a student workshop based on the music CYO will be performing. Progressive Arts Alliance (PAA) will run the educational workshop portion of the festival, which is open to students in grades 7 through 12, held on Monday, May 23, 2005.  “Characteristics of Popular Music in the 1980s” will be the focus this season. Experts from this field will lead the classes.  Registration for this free workshop can be done on the Progressive Arts Alliance Web site: www.paalive.org.
