I have already expressed my appreciation to all who participated in the May
6 inaugural concert of the TrueNorth Symphony. For those who were not
there, you missed an amazing event! As expected, Isabel Trautwein gave a
thrilling performance of the Mozart violin concerto. What was not
necessarily expected (by me, at least!) was how wonderful "Afternoon of a
Faun" sounded. I was amazed as I listened to it on the videotape of the
concert how well it came off, given how much we struggled with it in
rehearsal. "Finlandia" was stirring, and the audience was taken by the
youth members during their participation. One person who is well known in
the west suburban classical music scene is reported to have said, "I didn't
think a program of such quality could be presented in this area by a
volunteer orchestra." Well done, everyone!
Now we begin to prepare for the July 3rd Patriotic Concert, to be given at
6:30 in the TrueNorth Center parking lot in Avon Lake. This has been one of
the most popular concerts by TrueNorth Chorale in past years, and we will
support them with the TrueNorth Symphony. We will perform two or three
orchestral works, depending on who I can get to commit to playing.
Unfortunately, many of my regular players (including virtually all the
violins!) are out of town that weekend. This would be an excellent
opportunity for those of you who cannot participate during the school year
to join us for this short time. Among the works I would like to do are:
Finlandia (again)
Firework Music by Handel (the real version, not the watered-down version)
1812 Overture
However, I can't take on these challenging works unless I get a solid core
of musicians to support us. Please respond if you can join us. Rehearsals
are on Monday nights at 7:00 on June 6, 13, 20, and 27, plus a rehearsal
with the Chorale on June 26. All rehearsals are at the TrueNorth Center,
33483 Lake Road in Avon Lake. We are located in the shopping center across
from the CEI power plant.
Let's keep the momentum going after the wonderful debut of TrueNorth
Symphony!
