Gallery M says:
"Make a night of it, why not see both the Gallery M show AND the Studio of 5
Rings show this Friday night! They're just a few blocks away!" :o)

GALLERY M
Cleveland's Premier Art Jewelry Gallery

Cleveland's Gallery M to Host "200 Rings" Exhibit
Curated by Robert Ebendorf and Velvet da Vinci

Gallery M will host a reception for the traveling exhibit entitled "200
Rings" on Friday, June 3, 2005 from 5 to 9 p.m. The exhibition will be curated by
Mike Holmes and Elizabeth Shypertt of San Francisco's Velvet da Vinci gallery
and internationally known metalsmith Robert Ebendorf. The reception is free
and open to the public, and wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. There will
be a second reception on Friday, June 24 as part of a gallery tour during the
Society of North American Goldsmiths' annual conference being held in
Cleveland.

The "200 Rings" exhibition is based on the creative jewelry work shown in the
book "1000 Rings: Inspiring Adornments for the Hand", which features a
selection of rings by notable international jewelry artists who use a wide variety
of techniques and materials, from traditional to avant-garde.

Gallery M visitors already know the work displayed will be on the cutting
edge. Chosen for inclusion in "1000 Rings," metal artists Karl Fritsch, Anya
Pinchuk and Andrea Wippermann were also all spotted by Gallery M owner Todd
Pownell and curator Debra Rosen and featured in the gallery this past summer and
fall.

 The "200 Rings" exhibit opened in November at Velvet da Vinci and ran
through the end of the year at that location. The exhibit is moving east to:

* Obsidian Gallery, Tucson, Arizona, February 1 -March 31, 2005
* Gallery M, Cleveland, Ohio, June 3 - July 17, 2005 (during the 2005 SNAG
Conference, June 22-25th)
* Shaw Gallery, Northeast Harbor, Maine, August 1 - September 30, 2005

Gallery M's brand-new jewelry cases created especially for this exhibition by
Cleveland designer Daniel Balog will house the artists' jewelry. TAP Studios
and Gallery M feature a highly unique live-work loft with working
metalsmithing studio and class space adjoining the open jewelry gallery.

Following the opening, the artists' work will be on exhibit through July 17.
Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.,
Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment.

(CLEVELAND, May 17, 2005) =96 Hundreds of swing dancers=97from as far =
away=20
as Australia, Japan and Great Britain=97will converge at Cleveland=92s=20=

Bohemian National Hall June 2 through 5 to study, practice and compete=20=

in a swing-era dance called Balboa.

The All-Bal Weekend, a Balboa workshop presented by Cleveland=92s Get =
Hep=20
Swing Ltd. dance company, has helped resuscitate a partner dance that=20
nearly expired a decade ago. Now in its fifth year, the All-Bal Weekend=20=

features over 50 classes and four nights of open social dancing, with=20
instructors from across the United States. Dancers can register for the=20=

workshop online at www.allbalboa.com. No previous dance experience is=20
necessary=97classes are available for beginner through advanced=20
students=97and no partner is required.

=93It=92s incredible that this dance almost died out, just a few years=20=

ago,=94 said Get Hep Swing co-founder and dance instructor Valerie=20
Salstrom. =93Now there are major Balboa workshops and events around the=20=

world.=94 Salstrom and her dance partner Martin Klempner are the 2004=20
National Jitterbug Championships Balboa Champions. They learned the=20
dance from a few of its originators who are now in their eighties=97and=20=

are still dancing. =93We=92re thrilled to have Balboa legends Willie=20
Desatoff and Dean Raferty on the teaching schedule,=94 said Klempner.=20
=93They both started dancing Bal in the 1930s at the Rendezvous Ballroom=20=

on Balboa Island. And that=92s where Balboa got its name.=94

=93In the 1990s, the original dancers were literally dying of old age,=20=

with very few younger dancers learning Balboa,=94 added Salstrom. =
=93That=92s=20
one of the reasons Get Hep Swing started the All Bal Weekend in 2001=97to=20=

ensure the survival of this great American dance form.=94 The All Bal=20
Weekend has grown every year, helping spread Balboa love throughout the=20=

U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia. Salstrom and Klempner recently=20
returned from teaching Balboa in France, and are scheduled to teach=20
throughout North America and Europe this year.

Balboa=92s fans are devoted to the dance. =93Charleston was all the rage=20=

during the Depression. But dance floors became so crowded that=20
Charleston kicks and break-aways had to be banned=97too many dancers =
were=20
injuring each other,=94 said Balboa enthusiast Kathleen Hanover of=20
Dayton, Ohio. =93Balboa is danced in closed position and takes a lot =
less=20
floor space than the Charleston. It=92s a very contained, fluid, =
graceful=20
dance that=92s perfect for a crowded floor. It=92s also a no-impact =
swing=20
dance=97easier on my knees than Lindy Hop or Charleston. And that=92s=20
important because I plan to keep dancing until I=92m in my eighties=97at=20=

least.=94

Hanover has attended every All Bal Weekend and plans to compete in=20
several divisions at All Bal Weekend 2005. =93It=92s my favorite swing=20=

workshop of the year because of the quality of the instructors and the=20=

amazing social dancing. You just can=92t beat it. And it=92s right here =
in=20
Ohio!=94
