The Jewish Community Center Presents Something Wonderful

The Musicals of Rodgers and Hammerstein

Multi-Media Concert Features Radio Personality Bill Rudman

and Pianist Nancy Maier

Two Performances Only, September 24 and 25, 2005

at Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus Performing Arts Center

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Cleveland, in association with Cuyahoga
Community College, presents a musical journey celebrating Broadway's most
famous songwriting team with Something Wonderful: The Musicals of Rodgers
and Hammerstein for two performances only, September 24 at 8 p.m. and
September 25 at 2 p.m. at Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus
Performing Arts Center.

This multi-media concert opens the JCC's 2005-06 Arts and Culture Season and
is hosted by radio personality Bill Rudman, an expert in classic American
song. The songfest will be co-hosted by music director Nancy Maier (who
also serves as pianist). Sandra Simon and Jared Leal are the featured
vocalists.

Rudman will explore the legendary Broadway collaboration that began with
Oklahoma! in 1943 and continued through such beloved musicals as Carousel,
South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music. In addition to
selections from these and other shows, Something Wonderful will include rare
audio and video clips and dozens of still images.

The concert - part of Rudman's ongoing series "The Song Is You!" - is being
created especially for the Jewish Community Center and will complement the
JCC's production of South Pacific running October 15 - November 6, directed
by Fred Sternfeld.

Rudman said, "These two events will give Clevelanders the opportunity to
explore the world of two great artists - script and lyric writer Oscar
Hammerstein II and composer Richard Rodgers - whose impact on the American
musical can't be overstated. Throughout the course of 16 years and 11
musicals, the team not only gave audiences extraordinary entertainment;
their stories glow with human truth and idealism."

For 22 years Rudman has produced and hosted the weekly radio series
"Footlight Parade," heard locally on WCLV-FM; since 1998 the program has
been nationally syndicated and is now broadcast on 106 public radio
stations. In April 2005 XM Satellite Radio launched Rudman's show "On the
Aisle" on the network's Channel 28 "On Broadway."

Last season he hosted a sold-out performance of his concert Irving Berlin:
The Proud Father of 20th-Century Song for the Jewish Community Center.

Nancy Maier is well-known in the Cleveland area as a music director, vocal
coach and accompanist. She is currently music director-coach for the musical
theater program at Baldwin-Wallace College under the direction of Victoria
Bussert.

Maier is resident music director at Cain Park, where her work has included A
Little Night Music, Into the Woods, Big River, The Music Man, Sideshow,
Goblin Market, Avenue X, tick, tick.BOOM! and the recent Songs for a New
World. She has also music-directed for Great Lakes Theater Festival,
Porthouse Theater, Beck Center and Karamu House.

Maier has played keyboard for numerous touring productions at Playhouse
Square Center and served as orchestra contractor-keyboardist for Great Lakes
Theater Festival's productions of Gypsy and Anything Goes.

Sandra Simon has enjoyed a diverse career on the concert, musical theater
and opera stages. She has appeared on many area stages in such roles as
Phyllis in Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe and Johanna in Stephen Sondheim's
Sweeney Todd with Cleveland Opera; Violet in Side Show at the Cleveland Play
House and Cain Park; Kathy in The Last Five Years at Dobama Theatre; and at
Cain Park, Marion in The Music Man, Cinderella in Into the Woods and Lizzie
in Goblin Market.

A native of Cleveland, Simon has also performed with some of the leading
early-music ensembles in the United States and Canada including Opera
Atelier, Tafelmusik of Toronto, and Handel and Haydn of Boston. Locally she
is a favorite with Apollo's Fire and the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra. She
can be heard on the Eclectra, NPR and Koch International labels.

Jared Leal, a native of Amherst, is no stranger to the Rodgers and
Hammerstein repertoire. Immediately after graduating from Baldwin-Wallace
College, he understudied and performed the leading role of Billy Bigelow in
the national-tour revival of "Carousel."

Leal spent six years performing in Chicago, where he also served as managing
director of the Actors Center, a professional acting school specializing in
the Meisner acting technique.

After returning to Cleveland, he performed as tenor soloist at last year's
Focus Festival, singing under the composer's baton for Krzystof Penderecki's
"Te Deum."

This October he will appear as baritone soloist with the Baldwin-Wallace
Symphony and Chorus in Vaughn Williams' "Sea Symphony," to be broadcast live
on WCLV.
