Richard Goode Sunday, September 25, at 3 p.m. in Finney Chapel, located=20=

on the southwest corner of Lorain St. (Route 511) and N. Professor St.,=20=

across from Tappan Square. Finney Chapel is wheelchair accessible.

	Hailed for music making of tremendous emotional power, depth, =
and=20
expressiveness, Goode is acknowledged worldwide as one of today=92s=20
leading interpreters of the music of Beethoven, a fact that Oberlin=20
audiences will appreciate, since Goode=92s program includes three=20

in F Major, Op. 10, No. 2. The program concludes with Franz Schubert=92s=20=

Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, Op. Posth.

	David Blum, writing in The New Yorker, says that =93what one =
remembers=20
most from Goode=92s playing is not its beauty=97exceptional as it is=97but=
=20
his way of coming to grips with the composer=92s central thought, so =
that=20
a work tends to make sense beyond one=92s previous perception of it =85.=20=

The spontaneous formulating process of the creator [becomes] tangible=20
in the concert hall.=94

	Richard Goode has made more than two-dozen recordings, including=20=

Mozart Concerti with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the complete=20
Beethoven Piano Sonatas, the complete Partitas by J.S. Bach, and=20
chamber and solo works of Brahms, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, and=20
George Perle. Goode is the first American-born pianist to have recorded=20=

the complete Beethoven Sonatas, which were nominated for a 1994 Grammy=20=

Award. His recordings of the cycle have been hailed as among the finest=20=

interpretations of these works and have become a favorite of record=20
buyers around the world.

	Over the last few seasons, Goode has appeared with many of the =

sold-out concerts with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields under=20
Sir Neville Marriner.

	As a recitalist, Goode has become a favorite throughout Europe =
as well=20
as the United States, including regular appearances in Paris, London,=20
Amsterdam, Vienna, and the leading cities of Germany and Italy.

	Goode serves with Mitsuko Uchida as co-artistic director of the=20=

Marlboro Music School and Festival in Marlboro, Vermont.
