Karamu Performing Arts Theatre is to recieve the Dream Builders Award at =
the Proctor and Gamble Ohio Classic Chairman's Breakfast hosted by =
Channel 8 newsman Wayne Dawson on September 17 at The Crowne Plaza =
downtown. In addition to the award, the newly formed MU Mime Troupe =
(teen division) will perform a ten minute marionette/puppet dance number =
to the classic song "I Just Want To Be" by the legendary funk group =
Cameo during the ceremony. The piece was part of Karamu's Summer Camp =
production "FAME: Making it to the Top" and was a crowd favorite. This =
original and hilarious piece is a homage to some of the Karamu legends. =
Usher's choreographer and Clevelander Todd Sams was in the crowd during =
Aug. 12th show and enjoyed it. The summer camp production was directed =
by Terrence Spivey, Karamu's Artistic Director. Mr. Spivey also taught =
mime classes to the kids in the summer camp.

KARAMU in collaboration with Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre has =
been nominated for the Northern Ohio Live magazine "Awards in =
Achievement" for last Spring's production of "Daughter of a Buffalo =
Soldier". This dance/driven drama about the life of Karamu dance legend =
Marjorie Witt Johnson was directed by Clevelander and B'dway legend =
Dianne McIntyre. Ms. McIntyre, CCDT Founder Michael Medcalf, Karamu's =
Executive Director Gerry McClamy and Artistic Director Terrence Spivey =
will be present at the awards ceremony Monday, September 19 at Playhouse =
Square.
