The Oberlin Conservatory of Music Hosts a Benefit Concert for Hurricane=20=

Katrina Relief;
Event to be Broadcast Live on WCLV Monday, Oct. 3


OBERLIN, OHIO (September 23, 2005) =97The Oberlin Conservatory of Music=20=

at Oberlin College will host a benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina=20
relief, the proceeds of which will go to the American Red Cross. The=20
concert, which will feature the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra, the Oberlin=20=

Musical Union, and student jazz ensembles performing the music of New=20
Orleans, will take place on Monday, October 3, at 8 p.m. in Finney=20
Chapel and will be broadcast live on 104.9 FM-WCLV, Cleveland=92s=20
classical music radio station, and simulcast on www.wclv.com.

	Finney Chapel is located on the southwest corner of Route 511 =
(Lorain=20
Street) and North Professor Street, and free parking is available=20
throughout the campus. Seating is general admission.

	Although admission to the concert is free, audience members will =
be=20
encouraged to make a donation to the Red Cross. Oberlin volunteers will=20=

staff tables in the Finney Chapel lobby and can accept contributions=20
made by check, cash, or credit card. Patrons will also be able to make=20=

donations to the Red Cross via a link from the College=92s web site=20
(www.oberlin.edu).

	=93As a community, Oberlin College has long been committed to =
assisting=20
those in need,=94 says Dean of the Conservatory David H. Stull. =93All =

us are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the destruction wrought=20=

by Hurricane Katrina. The Oberlin Conservatory hopes to reach out to=20
our neighbors in northern Ohio to join us in offering assistance in the=20=

most effective and meaningful way that we can. There is tremendous=20
power in music and its ability to sustain and uplift us in times of=20
tragedy. I am hopeful that this benefit concert, with proceeds going to=20=

the American Red Cross, will enable us to generously contribute to the=20=

relief efforts.=94

	The program for the evening features Gardner Professor of Music=20=

Timothy Weiss conducting the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra in movements=20
from Hector Berlioz=92s Romeo and Juliet and Igor Stravinsky=92s Song of=20=

the Nightingale; Associate Professor of Choral Conducting Hugh Floyd=20
will conduct the Oberlin Musical Union in the Lacrymosa movement from=20
Mozart=92s Requiem, K. 626; and the Oberlin Jazz Septet will perform=20
Stars Fell on Alabama, by Mitchell Parish and Frank Perkins; Do You=20
Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans, by Eddie Delange and Loise=20
Alter and featuring Nina Moffett on vocals; and Thelonius Monk=92s =
Bright=20
