and DAN WILSON

Born in Santa Barbara, Glen Phillips was the lead singer and main songwriter for Toad the Wet Sprocket. The band started in 1986, when Phillips was only 14. Their first LP, Bread and Circus, was recorded in 1988 and got them signed to Columbia Records. Their third album, Fear, got heavy radio play with the singles "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean." After three years away from the recording studio, Toad came back with Dulcinea, which again found one of its singles, "Fall Down," in heavy radio rotation. After six albums and a substantial amount of touring, the group disbanded in 1998.

Phillips began touring as a solo act after Toad the Wet Sprocket broke up, and worked with producer Ethan Johns to create his first solo album, Albulum. Glen Phillips says it took a "ridiculously long time" to create; it was finally released in April of 2001 on Brick Red Records. Phillips has also collaborated on several songs with bluegrass band Nickel Creek and toured with them for the last half of 2001. He released Live at Largo in In 2003, followed by Winter Pays for Summer in 2005, a collection of new material that featured guest appearances from ex-Jellyfish front man Andy Sturmer, Ben Folds, Kristin Mooney, Jon Brion, and Semisonic/Trip Shakespeare scribe Dan Wilson. ~ Laurel Greenidge, All Music Guide

Singer/songwriter Garrison Starr is an individualist with a streak of passion. Having spent her life growing up down South, her work mixes up Nashville country appeal with a hearty rock twang.

When her friends where making life plans after high school, Starr's ambition was to become a singer. She issued the homemade cassette Pinwheels upon her high school graduation and maintained a steady schedule of coffeehouse gigs before leaving for the University of Mississippi in the fall of 1993. Starr's college stint was short-lived, for she packed her bags after three semesters in order to do music full-time. Her 1996 EP Stupid Girl reflected upon her time spent in school. A year later, Starr issued her proper mainstream debut, Eighteen Over Me, and exuded a new confidence and fresh musical direction. Her musical was sultry, yet abrasive. She was coming into her own as an artist, but also as an individual. Such a change didn't last long though, for Starr was a bit disenchanted with her life choices and was self-doubting in her early twenties. Longtime friend and songwriter Clay Jones supported her throughout this second guessing. A move from Nashville to Los Angeles brought Starr
back to the stomping grounds and in the late '90s, she and Jones began writing songs again. Starr took her time with the new material. The post-alternative and country twist of Songs From Take-Off Landing, Starr's second effort, was issued in spring 2002. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide

Dan Wilson is best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the alternative rock band Semisonic. Their late-90's release Feeling Strangely Fine was the focus of both critical acclaim and commercial
success in the US as well as the UK. Feeling Strangely Fine yielded massive transcontinental hit "Closing Time" and the UK Smash "Secret Smile".

Semisonic's third album, "All About Chemistry" was greeted with equally high accolades. The British magazine "Q" gave the album a rare five star review, one of only two delivered in a decade, the other going to Oasis.

Wilson recently completed his first solo record, a work helmed by legendary producer Rick Rubin. As the record awaits release on Warner Bros., Wilson has become an in-demand producer and songwriter, lending his talents to artists including Jason Mraz, The Dixie Chicks, Mike Doughty, Michelle Branch, and Rachel Yamagata among others.

Dan's musical past also finds him as a member of the alternative folk-rock band Trip Shakespeare, whose flowery yet earthy psychedelic tracks are still sought out by collectors around the world.

SAM BUSH

Friday, October 7
8:00 PM

Multi-instrumentalist Sam Bush has established himself as a compelling and vibrant performer within the bluegrass and acoustic music arenas. He joins exclusive Sony Classical artist Edgar Meyer on Sony Classical's forthcoming release Short Trip Home (SK 60864). This new Meyer project (to be released in the fall of 1999) is an album of original music, featuring works in a mixture of classical, bluegrass and folk styles performed with violinist Joshua Bell, guitarist Mike Marshall and with Sam Bush on Mandolin.

At age 19 Bush founded New Grass Revival, a band of inventive and aggressive high caliber musicians that for 18 years challenged established notions of traditional bluegrass by fusing a wide range of styles that included gospel, rock, pop, reggae, jazz, country and bluegrass.

New Grass Revival disbanded in 1989, when Bush went on to lead Emmylou Harris' Grammy-winning Nash Ramblers — a position he held for 5 years.

Bush has since toured extensively with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and Lyle Lovett. A sought-after session player, Bush (who plays mandolin, fiddle and guitar) has recorded on albums by Leon Russell, Doc Watson, Steve Earle, Garth Brooks, Steve Wariner, Trisha Yearwood and Pam Tillis, among others.

Advance tickets: $22.00
Day of Show: $25.00
