Auditions for the legendary Broadway musical “Fiddler on the Roof,” Little
Theatre of Tuscarawas County’s winter production, will be held Nov. 6 and 7,
beginning each evening at 7 in Little Theatre at 466 Carrie Ave. NW, New
Philadelphia.

“Fiddler on the Roof” will open Feb. 17 for a 10-performance run under the
direction of Rex Huffman of New Philadelphia. Sylvia Schneider is the show’s
music director and accompanist. Christine Walsh-Newton is production assistant
and choreography is by Bart Herman.

“Fiddler on the Roof” is set in early 20th century Russia, where change is in
the air. Tevye, a wife, hardworking, but poor dairyman, is attempting to find
husbands for his three eldest daughters in the traditional way, while the
daughters, in a break from tradition, refuse to accept the wishes of matchmaker
Yente, and, instead, marry men they actually love.

There are roles available for men and women, as well as a limited number of
children.

Principal roles include:

Tevye, a baritone with a vocal range of low A-flat to high F;

Golde, his stubborn wife, a mezzo with a range of low A to B-flat;

the three daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava, all mezzo sopranos;

Motel, a tailor who is in love with Tzeitel, a tenor with a vocal range of E to
high F-sharp;

Perchik, a student revolutionary who is in love with Hodel, a baritone with a
vocal range of B to high E;

Fyedka,a Russian non-Jew who wants to marry Chava;

Yente, the matchmaker, an alto with a vocal range of low F to E-flat;

and Lazar Wolf, a butcher who would like to marry Tzeitel, a baritone with a
vocal range of C to C.

Other roles include the Rabbi, Mendel, his son; Grandma Tzeitel, Fruma-Sarah and
the constable. The show also features a large chorus with multiple musical
numbers.

Those auditioning should come with a prepared song. An accompanist will be
provided. Taped accompaniment, without a vocal track, is also acceptable. Both
audition sessions will also include a dance session conducted by Herman.

“Fiddler on the Roof” will open Feb. 17 and be performed three weekends, with a
total of 10 performances, closing March 4.
