COMING TOGETHER - Stark County 
in collaboration with 
the Player's Guild Theatre
 announce auditions for the 1982 Pulitzer Prize winning play 
"A Soldier's Play"
 written by Charles Fuller 
directed by Sean Reid
The play calls for a cast of 12 men between the ages of 20 and 40, 9
black and 3 white. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd at
6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, November 5th at 10:00 a.m. Callbacks will be
on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:00 p.m. Alternative auditions are only
available at the discretion of the director. Auditions will be held at
the offices of Coming Together at 116 Cleveland Ave. N., Suite 700,
Canton, OH 44702. 
A black Army sergeant has been beaten and murdered at Fort Neal, an Army
post just outside the small town of Tynin, Louisiana. Were the murderers
Klansmen or white racist Army officers? Captain Richard Davenport, a
lawyer in the 343rd Military Police Corps Unit, wants to know. The only
problem is that Captain Davenport is the first black commissioned
officer the soldiers at the segregated Fort have ever seen. To discover
anything he will have to enlist the help of Fort Neal's white commanding
officers, some of whom are not at all eager to have the murderer
identified, especially if it is one of them.
Originally performed Off-Broadway by the Negro Ensemble Company in 1981,
the story was also released as the 1984 motion picture

Caesar and Howard E. Rollins Jr., featuring Denzel Washington and
directed by Norman Jewison. The film was nominated for three Academy
Awards, three Golden Globe awards and won an Edgar Allen Poe Award for
playwright Charles Fuller as well as a Los Angeles Film Critics
Association Award for Adolph Caesar (Sergeant Waters).
Director Sean Reid is a native of Stark County prior to moving to
California. While in Los Angeles he wrote and directed "Redemption", a
full-length motion picture which is currently marketed internationally.
Mr. Reid continues to bring the art of cinema to the area through
various projects developed in conjunction with local colleges and
universities. In addition, he directed last year's production of "A
Raisin in the Sun" on the main stage of the Players Guild Theatre which
was the third highest grossing production of the season, bested only by
"A Christmas Carol" and "Rocky Horror".
