Dear Friends,

Ciaramella -- the ensemble for music of the 15th century -- takes its =20=

name from the Italian word for =93shawm=94 (that most brilliant of =20
Renaissance reed instruments and predecessor to the much more refined =20=

oboe) and from a girl of 15th-century song. Like the instrument, her =20
clothes are full of holes, and when she opens her mouth, she knocks =20
men flat.

The ensemble brings to life late Medieval and early Renaissance music =20=

from historical events and manuscripts to life, performing intricate =20
15th-century counterpoint =93with the ease of jazz musicians =20
improvising on a theme," according to Wilma Salisbury of The Plain =20
Dealer.

Ciaramella is coming to Cleveland on Saturday and they will knock you =20=

out with their brilliant virtuosity, their lively programming, and =20
their wonderful music. The concert, "Pipers from Over the Mountains," =20=

features music written by the northern Europeans who made their way =20
to Italy in the 15th century. It's presented by the Case Western =20
Reserve University Department of Music on the 20th anniversary season =20=

of Chapel, Court & Countryside: Early Music at Harkness.
