For Immediate Release- January 11, 2006

Brush up on your shim sham and bring your tap shoes because the third annual Rhythm ISS… and Friends tap festival weekend is in town January 14th and 15th 2006! Events include a tap performance Saturday, January 14th at Cuyahoga Community College’s Eastern Campus Auditorium (Richmond and Harvard Rd.) at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $15, and performers include Kirtland native Sarah Savelli and her Chicago based, all female tap company, Rhythm ISS… which she co-founded in 1995, as well as New Yorker Ayodele Casel, (the first female to perform with Savion Glover) and Chicago based artists Jay Fagan, Julie Cartier, and Jumaane Taylor. The Jackie Warren Trio will also be making their premiere. There will be master classes and a scholarship audition worth $200 to the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, the country’s oldest and largest tap festival on Sunday, January 15th at Savelli Dance, 7516 Tyler Blvd, Mentor. Classes begin at 9:00 am, and faculty includes all of the performers in the show as
well as Jennifer Savelli, whose extensive resume includes the Pennsylvania Ballet, many Broadway shows, and the award winning motion picture Chicago.

Sarah Savelli is bringing this festival to the area for the third time to expose audiences to the world of rhythm and improvisational tap dancing, with some of the top artists in the field. Improvisational tap dancing is an amazing aspect of the art form where the performer is composing the dancing right on the spot, just like a jazz musician. Savelli herself, who began her dance training with her mother Dianne at the age of four, has been tap dancing professionally in Chicago and New York since graduating from high school. Both she and her company have been featured in the PBS special Juba! The Masters of Tap and Percussive Dance, and in numerous festivals, industrials, and shows nationally and internationally. Don’t miss this entertaining and exciting weekend! This show will appeal to audiences of all ages, and the master classes offer something for everyone no matter what your level of expertise in tap or jazz, or where you study. For ticket information and to register for
classes, call Sarah at 216-347-6888 or email ssavelli234 at yahoo.com. See you there!
