"ENRON: The Smartest Guys In The Room"=20

2005     (R)       110 minutes          USA                    =20
Director:           Alex Gibney
Cast: Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, Andy Fastow, Bethany McLean

Tickets: $4.00/Admission; $3.00 Annual Film Series Membership (good
through April 28, 2006)

This searing examination of the Enron accounting scandal reveals the
psychology of greed and corporate corruption that facilitated the
company's rise to power and also its fall. When Enron went bankrupt in
2001, the principals walked away millionaires - but later faced legal
proceedings and jail sentences. Meanwhile, many employees and investors
were left with nothing, not even their 401k retirement savings. Shedding
light on the new economy of the 1990s when predictions and book-cooking
flourished without actual profits, the film shows how it was not Enron
alone but a network of bankers, traders, and accountants who turned a
blind eye to the company's clearly suspicious numbers. CEO Ken Lay and
top dogs Jeff Skilling and Andy Fastow give candid interviews that
illustrate their skill at deflecting hard questions and egotistically
boasting about the company's success. In one of the company's cold and
calculated moves - which caused the California power outages, and lead
to the ousting of governor Gray Davis - Enron employees are shown
laughing at forest fires. Unbelievable footage of employees reveals
unbridled greed, lust for risk-taking, and guiltless cheating, all while
thinking they could never be caught. A remarkable documentary which
packages the events of the scandal into a cohesive story, this is one
film not to miss.

COMING NEXT WEEK:

Friday's film -- "A TOUCH OF SPICE" - January 27th at 8:00p.m.

Tickets: $4.00/Admission; $3.00 Annual Film Series Membership (good
through April 28, 2006)

2003            (PG-13)  108 minutes          Greece       Subtitles
Director:       Tassos Boulmetis
Cast: Georges Corraface, Leroklis Michailidis, Stelios Mainas

A story about Fanis, a young Greek boy growing up in Istanbul, whose
grandfather, a culinary philosopher and mentor, teaches him that both
food and life require a little salt to give them flavor; they both
require...a touch of spice. Fanis grows up to become an excellent cook
and uses his cooking skills to spice up the lives of those around him.
35 years later he leaves Athens and travels back to his birthplace of
Istanbul to reunite with his grandfather and his first love; he travels
back only to realize that he forgot to put a little bit of spice in his
own life. As his mentor used to say "there are two types of travelers
in life, those who are leaving and those who are returning, the first
look at the map, the latter look in the mirror...". Now it's time for
our hero to take a look in his own mirror. "A TOUCH OF SPICE" is a
nostalgic bitter-sweet comedy about self-awareness, people leaving their
homeland, personal conflict but most importantly shows us how cooking
can give all of us valuable lessons about love and life itself. Humor,
sensitivity, romance and mouth-watering delicacies make up this touching
yet comical coming-of-age story. A scrumptious delight!

Sunday, January 29th at 4:00p.m.

"GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES"

Tickets:  $34.00/Orchestra; $27.00/Mezzanine

This madcap musical is the adventure of chorus girl Lorelei Lee, a role
made famous on Broadway by Carol Channing in 1949 and on screen by
Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s. Set in the roaring '20s, "Gentlemen Prefer
Blondes" tells the story of the fun-loving and hedonistic gold-digger
Lorelei and her sail aboard the Ile de France to Paris with her chum
Dorothy Shaw, another ex-Follies girl.=20

Lorelei and Dorothy are about to embark on the Ile de France to cruise
to Europe, where Lorelei is to marry the delightfully rich Gus Esmond,
son of 's Button King. Unfortunately, Gus announces at the last minute
two disturbing developments: first that his father insists he stay
behind for an important button conference, so he can't travel with the
girls, and second that he has heard worrying news about a new invention
called the zipper, which just might ruin his great button empire!=20

The girls set about enjoying the cruise without Gus. They have plenty of
help, notably from the American Olympic Team who are also en route to
Paris. Also on board are Mrs. Spofford, the richest widow in
Philadelphia, and her son Henry, who takes to Dorothy in a big way.
There is an English couple too - Sir Francis and Lady Beekman, who has a
tiara that Lorelei just knows would look best on her own blonde head.
And there is Josephus Gage, a hearty young man who turns out to be
America's Zipper King. So when Lorelei gets a wireless message from Gus
that his father has found out about a little escapade of hers with a
revolver in Little Rock and it looks like the wedding is off, it is only
logical that she should turn her attention to Josephus and Sir Francis.=20

Eventually, Lorelei succeeds in getting her tiara and her Gus, and
arranges a merger between the button business and the zipper business
that looks to bring success and lots more diamonds in her future.=20

The score is packed with lively, chipper melodies which evoke the
fancy-free age of the late twenties, such as "A Little Girl From Little
Rock," "Bye Bye Baby," the title song, and of course, the best known
song from the score, "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend."=20

about Fanis, a young Greek boy growing up in <st1:City =
w:st=3D"on"><st1:place=20
w:st=3D"on">Istanbul</st1:place></st1:City>, whose grandfather, a =
culinary=20
philosopher and mentor, teaches him that both food and life require a =
little=20
salt to give them flavor; they both require...a touch of spice.  =
Fanis=20
grows up to become an excellent cook and uses his cooking skills to =
spice up the=20
lives of those around him.  35 years later he leaves <st1:City=20
w:st=3D"on">Athens</st1:City> and travels back to his birthplace of =
<st1:City=20
w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=3D"on">Istanbul</st1:place></st1:City> to =
reunite with=20
his grandfather and his first love; he travels back only to realize that =
he=20
forgot to put a little bit of spice in his own life.  As his mentor =
used to=20
say "there are two types of travelers in life, those who are leaving and =
those=20
who are returning, the first look at the map, the latter look in the=20
mirror...".  Now it's time for our hero to take a look in his own=20
mirror.  "A TOUCH OF SPICE" is a nostalgic bitter-sweet comedy =
about=20
self-awareness, people leaving their homeland, personal conflict but =
most=20
importantly shows us how cooking can give all of us valuable lessons =
about love=20
and life itself.  Humor, sensitivity, romance and mouth-watering =
delicacies=20
make up this touching yet comical coming-of-age story.  A =
scrumptious=20
delight!</SPAN></P>
