Grants Ring in the New Year February 2, 2006 .... Cleveland. Cleveland Ope=
ra's Board of Trustees announces the receipt of over $200,000 in grants fro=
m Cleveland-based foundations during December 2005. The grants, obtained f=
rom The Cleveland Foundation, The John P. Murphy Foundation, The Key Founda=
tion, The George Gund Foundation, and The S.K. Wellman Foundation, will be =
used for operational and seasonal support during 2006. =20

"The assistance we have received from these organizations is outstanding," =
stated President Peter Rubin. "We are so grateful to have the type of supp=
ort which enables us to produce grand operas like the ones we have presente=
d over the past two years. Money going towards the fundamental operation o=
f our business is critical for the success of our art."

The Cleveland Foundation, a community foundation which receives funds from =
the citizens of Cleveland and donates them back to organizations within the=
community, contributed $150,000 to the Opera. The funds will be used as s=
easonal support for the remainder of the 2005-2006 season, including produc=
tion of Turandot and The Tyrant.

$50,000 came from The Murphy Foundation, which distributes grants to scient=
ific, charitable, educational, religious, and literary purposes in the Clev=
eland area. The money will aid the Opera in expenses incurred during gener=
al day-to-day operations.

The Key Foundation, funded by KeyBank, contributes to different organizatio=
ns to help people and communities achieve economic self-sufficiency. The f=
oundation gave $25,000 to the Opera for the 2006 Season. =20

Together, The George Gund Foundation and the S.K. Wellman Foundation grante=
d $15,000 to Cleveland Opera, also for general operations support. The Gun=
d Foundation, established in 1952 by George Gund, contributed $10,000 to th=
e Opera. A private, independent organization, The S.K. Wellman Foundation =
gave $5,000 towards the continuation of the 2006 Season.
