  THEATER
  Towering Big Daddy highlights 'Cat'
  Monday, February 06, 2006

Check it out: Through Sunday, Feb. 19. Lakeland Community College Performing Arts Center, Kirtland. $8-$10. 440-525-7034.
As "A Streetcar Named Desire" closed at the Cleveland Play House, Lakeland Theatre took on "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."
It is not as polished, but gorgeous, smart Liz Conway at least exudes Maggie's passion if not always her calculation, and director Martin Friedman creates a credible, psychologically intense Tennessee Williams milieu despite budget limitations.
Mary Jane Nottage makes for a flutter-brained Big Mama, and Mark Smith pouts well as Brick.
But the evening belongs to Mitchell Fields' big Big Daddy. With a snowy mane, Fields conducts a master class in building a monumental performance from dozens of minute nuances.
