Emergency Cast  Replacement =20
Inside  Out  =20
The cast of Inside Out, a musical that opened Friday night was shaken by th=
e=20
news that the father of one of the cast members had passed away Friday=20
evening. Lissy Gulick, veteran Cleveland actor and singer, learned after th=
e=20
Friday performance that her father, Brooks Jones had suffered a stroke. Lis=
sy=20
traveled directly from the theater to the hospital where Mr. Jones passed a=
way.=20
The Saturday and Sunday performances of Inside Out went on as scheduled. =20
MaryJo Alexander, Artistic Director of Actors=E2=80=99 Summit, stepped into=
 the role=20
Lissy portrayed, that of Grace, the therapist. At these two performances,=20
MaryJo performed while holding the script and score in hand.=20
=E2=80=9CWe=E2=80=99re fortunate to have someone with MaryJo=E2=80=99s skil=
ls and talents as an=20
actor and singer available to step in on short notice,=E2=80=9D said direct=
or Neil=20
Thackaberry. Although Ms. Alexander was familiar with the play, she had not=
 been=20
involved in the rehearsal process because she was designing costumes for Ca=
se=20
Western Reserve University=E2=80=99s production of Look Back in Anger. She=20=
also =20
designed the costumes for Inside Out.=20
=E2=80=9CI=E2=80=99m so grateful for the help of the other cast members,=
=E2=80=9D said MaryJo. =E2=80=9C
The play is about women who support each other through group therapy. The p=
lay=20
became a metaphor for the Saturday and Sunday performances =E2=80=93 a grou=
p, group =20
effort.=E2=80=9D=20
Lissy Gulick has decided to withdraw from the production to be able to spen=
d=20
time with her family and friends. MaryJo and the rest of the cast will go=20
back into rehearsal to help prepare MaryJo for the remainder of the run. T=
he=20
play performs through March  5.=20
The Play =20
The group therapy sessions have been going on for some time now. The women=20
are desperate, smart, sassy, affectionate, aware, and determined women who=20
give and get support in spirited weekly meetings. Their therapist is Grace,=
 who=20
is on her third marriage. A hesitant new member, alters the chemistry of th=
e=20
group and stimulates a round of evocative and uplifting breakthroughs. Wome=
n=E2=80=99
s issues (and women=E2=80=99s issues with men) are explored with humor, wit=
, and=20
sensitivity. The vibrant score ranges from hysterical Broadway patter to=20
no-holds-barred gospel and good-time doowop.  =20
The New York Times wrote: =E2=80=9CThe characters seem like real people eve=
n when=20
they sing and dance. =E2=80=A6 A bright, witty and wise musical comedy abou=
t the way we=20
live now.=E2=80=9D It has also been named one of the best Off Broadway musi=
cals by=20
Theatre  Mania.=20
The show had a ten month run in New York, first off Broadway and then Off=20
