CHALK: A Poetical by Al Letson
Karamu Performing Arts Theatre will hold open auditions for youth theatre
actors
Wed/Thurs, March 1st and 2nd, 6PM-9PM (Concert Hall)
Sat/Sun, March 4th and 5th, 10AM -2PM (Arena)
CHALK centers around childhood friends Angie, Laura, and Lisa and their
transition from Elementary to Middle School. Their friendship begins to
unravel as the pressure of trying to be a part of the in-crowd takes its
toll. This play explores the traumatic, and often unseen struggle of
relational aggression between children. Angie, torn between her friend Lisa
and the more popular Laura, eventually abandons Lisa to become a part of the
middle school's social circle. Life at Claymoore Middle School is
uneventful until the new boy in school falls for Angie, and a jealous Laura,
who has a crush on him, starts to change everything. CHALK illustrates the
cycle of teen aggression through a new genre of theatre, the Poetical.
(Suitable for ages 11 and up)

All Youth Theatre performances are one acts. The duration of performances
are 45-60 minutes, and run on Saturdays and Sundays @ 2pm for a four-week
period. (8 performances total)
Seeking a multiracial cast of teens, male and female between the ages of 10
and up.
Actors must read from cold scripts. Actors should be prepared to rehearse
2-3 evenings during the week and most Saturdays. All performers will receive
complimentary tickets to some performances. The Director is Desmond Storme'
Jones.
Character Breakdown and Needs
6 young men, ages 10-14
6 young women, ages 10-14
3 adult women
2 adult men
