We're delighted to present ON A PEDESTAL, a 3D sculpture exhibition of=20=

Ohio artists juried by VIKTOR SCHRECKENGOST.

Please join us on Friday, March 10 from 5 pm to 9 pm for a free public=20=

opening reception to celebrate the work of the artists selected for=20
this exhibition. The evening will be complimented with live music=20
performed by Bill Lestock. Robert Thurmer, a board member of The=20
Sculpture Center and sculptor, teacher, and Director of the University=20=

Art Gallery at Cleveland State University, served as prescreener for=20
this exhibition and will give a welcoming introduction.

This juried exhibition, now in its second year, is back by popular=20
request from sculptors, art collectors, and art enthusiasts. This=20
exhibition proved to be one of the most highly attended shows at The=20
Sculpture Center in recent years and several works were purchased by=20
art collectors. The works are pedestal-sized sculptures in wood, glass,=20=

ceramics, stone, and metals. Many of the works are for sale.

Juror Viktor Schreckengost of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, was born in=20
1906, and earned a reputation as a leader in 20th-century ceramics and=20=

industrial design. A teacher at the Cleveland Institute of Art for over=20=

70 years, he also maintained a full-time design career. Well known for=20=

his 1930 Jazz Bowl commissioned by Eleanor Roosevelt, which is now=20
considered an icon of the Art Deco era, Mr. Schreckengost also created=20=

slab-form ceramic sculptures that helped elevate ceramics from a craft=20=

to an art form during the mid-1900=92s. Mr. Schreckengost has received=20=

numerous prestigious awards, including the State of Ohio Governor=92s=20
Award for the Arts (2000), and is an honorary lifetime member of the=20
American Ceramic Society. In honor of his 100th birthday in June, 2006,=20=

a national series of over 100 exhibitions will feature his work in=20
museums, businesses, and a variety of venues including The Sculpture=20
Center.

We look forward to your enjoyment of this exciting array of sculpture!
